I have 1998 T4R Limited, and my intermittent wiper function is...well... intermittent. Sometimes it works properly, and sometimes it is always on the low setting. I thought it was a wiper switch problem and ordered a replacement. I installed it today, and the same condition exists. I downloaded the FSM. If I'm reading the wiring diagram correctly, the intermittent voltage control signal originates from a relay in the switch itself. Any ideas as to why a replacement switch would not fix the problem??? Could I possibly have a bad switch contact in the wiper motor???...Thank you.

Yes, inside the wiper control stalk, there is a coil which upon heating disconnects the power like what happen when you use auto mode in the drivers window (heats up: expands: disconnects) what is the make of the switch you bought? A used? or new? How about the wire pins inside the connector?

Well, that is a potential problem right there!
I saw there was a test procedure in the FSM for the switch. I'll use that to test the old and new switch to confirm they are working properly.
Did you happen to solve this? I have the same issue.
When turned to intermittent it will operate constantly on low. I bought and swapped in a known good switch from a fellow member and the problem persists...
My wiper motor is just over a year old so hopefully it's not that. Has anyone had a problem in the wiring between the switch and motor?

Thought I'd resurrect this thread.
I'm having a problem with my front wipers on the intermittent setting. When I'm on the intermittent setting, I can't control the speed of the wipers. The speed is the same as the second wiper setting, no matter how I set the intermittent interval. The 2nd and 3rd wiper positions work as they should, it's just the intermittent wiper setting that seems to have failed.
Anybody been through this before or know a solution? I'm thinking it must be a relay issue somewhere, but I am unsure of how to find it. Part numbers, wiring diagrams, anything that you think could be helpful would be appreciated. Thanks!

The position sensor 'tracks' in the motor are dirty or worn and not sending the park/stop signal. You can try to clean/repair or get a new wiper motor. Mine generally starts working correctly after between 1 and 10 wiper cycles and will continue working until it hasn't rained for a while... So, 'using it' is another possible solution.

Thanks for the info Charlie! I rarely use my wipers (water on the windshield doesn't bother me), and when I do, I just manually wipe it once. So, what you're saying makes sense. I'll give it a try this weekend
