You dont have to drill the holes in the front if you go with their 3/4. You definitely need to drill if you go with the full length. You want as much structural integrity as possible without that, your messing with the effective rigidness of the rack. Usually if a company recommends to do something , it should be done. I personally have the FRO full length. Switched from the 3/4 and did the test fit for the 5th Gen Full length since they are right down the street from me. You will not regret it. I wouldnt own any other rack system nor does any competing companies have as many proven and tested accessories to easily mount to it. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Actually, if you run their universal side rails (not the vehicle specific ones), you can avoid drilling holes for the front on the full length racks.
Gabex35 was one of the first to run a full length roof rack, before Front Runner released it as an option. He did it without drilling IIRC.

I've installed a couple of the FRO full length racks. The drilling really isn't that big of an issue. I can understand the hesitation to 4 new hole in a 30K + rig but if you're going to do it, do it right. The nice thing is that with these racks is if you bust up a part of it you can just replace that part, not the entire rack like the Gobi or others.Did anybody try to install full front runner rack slim without putting two holes in the front?
i did drill through the front. I'm i agreement with THESS that its the right way to mount these types of racks. i know Paul at Equipt told me i didn't need to do that with the similar K-9 rack and the XO crew has had success with it mounted that way but there's no doubt it's stronger with a forward mount.
