FS: 1987 4Runner SR5 - $3400 obo – near Nashville TN
Briefly:
Incredibly straight, rust-free body;
296,768 miles (Jan 16, 2014);
5-speed manual transmission;
22R-E engine.
with the 16” Tacoma alloy wheels mounted with off-road tires
I've owned since April 2009. The previous owner:
somewhat built/rebuilt the engine with LCE (LC Engineering Home Page) crank and header;
lifted the rear with the 63” Chevy spring mod;
lifted the front a bit with Roger Brown ball joint spacers;
installed a Detroit rear locker.
Since I bought it in April 2009, I’ve:
This 4Runner is a decent DD (daily driver). It’s excellent off-road. As it’s been mostly an Arizona vehicle, it has no body rust. The body is incredibly straight for a vehicle of this type and age. It is currently ‘rattle-can tan’ over original red paint.
What you get:
1987 Toyota 4Runner SR5;
two sets of Toyota Tacoma alloy 6-spoke wheels (15” & 16”) with good tires;
custom receiver/rear bumper;
custom bikini top;
new ball joints and FCA bushings still in boxes;
spare hood (with louvers).
What’s wrong with it?:
the front shocks rub at the lower mount due to the ball joint spacers and cranked torsion bars;
driver’s wing window whistles at speed and leaks in carwash (it’s ok in rain).

Since I bought it in April 2009, I’ve:
added a custom rear bumper with integrated receiver
(http://www.illzoni.com/4Runner/bumper.htm);
made a nice custom camo bikini top for it
more at: http://www.illzoni.com/4Runner/bikini.2.html;
had all windows re-tinted;
ditched the cheap steel wheels it came with and bought two sets of Tacoma alloy wheels (one set 15", the other 16");
painted the 16" wheels black with Plasti-Dip (now peeling) (http://www.illzoni.com/4Runner/wheels.htm);
added a rear lap belt in the center;
converted the windshield from chrome to rubber seal (no more hidden rust);
replaced the hood, as PO had put louvers in the old one (still have the old one);
replaced a failing upper forward control arm (FCA);
have new ball joints and FAC bushings in boxes;
had installed new exhaust and cat from header back;
replaced missing bits here and there (window crank handles, rear headrests, topper trim, rear seat release knobs).
