I’m already regretting the possibility that I might be getting rid of her, but I’m about to pull the trigger on a new Army Green trail.
I’m the second owner and have had it since January 2015 (daily driven). Since that time I’ve only accumulated roughly 40000 miles driving. I have every service record for the entire vehicle’s existence, all done at a single Toyota dealership.
Installed FJ Cruiser Trail Teams (reservoir shocks) suspension/lift in March of 2018 as well as OEM TRD Pro wheels along with BFG KO2’s (255/75/17). Included were OEM (longer) rear sway bar end links from a third gen, greasable bushings, and Superflex rear coils from Toytec. All amounts to approximately 3” of lift.
Doug Thorley stainless headers and Y-pipe were installed February 2020. Also has Flowmaster 40 series muffler which was installed in 2015. No cats currently, but still have factory components that will go with it.
New front CV axles, front calipers, and rotors all around April 2021.
Additional upgrades include custom grill, front and rear blackvue dash cameras, Scion Pioneer touchscreen radio with Bluetooth/USB, weathertech mats throughout, FJ shifter, Drone mobile remote starter (can start from phone with subscription or from fob).
Mechanically never encountered a single issue. Preventatively replaced timing belt when I bought it at 47000 miles only due to age. Vehicle has never been off road beyond gravel access roads. Interior is excellent condition, non-smoker.
Known concerns:
Tail pipe exiting flowmaster (7yrs old) rusted out so currently just have exhaust dumping from muffler, no tail pipe
Exhaust leak - headers sound great but under initial hard throttle or pulling a load you can hear the flutter/leak sound intermittently. This has been the case since shortly after install and hasn’t gotten any worse. I assume the bolts at the head needed re-torqued but never bothered as it was never prominent or annoying enough, also the place that put them on seemed happy to never see me again and apparently had some difficulty with the tight fitment
Rust - the majority of the frame itself is relatively rust free aside from typical surface rust and weld seams. There are some sections that have more moderate rust (pics to follow) but nothing that would alarm me in regards to structural integrity. Components like rear axle and control arms seem to have rusted at a faster rate. Front brake backing plates are in need of replacement. I could probably paint the frame but didn’t want to appear to be trying to cover up anything. I will be treating it unless there’s a relatively quick sell.
Rear Bumper is a shade or two off. I went cheap and ordered a pre-painted aftermarket replacement bumper after backing into a pole. Vehicle has never had any other collisions.
