I really wish I was in the market for another 4Runner, this has been very tastefully modded. I would hold out for the right buyer if you can afford too, all these performance upgrades make me very jealous.

not if you don't have the rust "problems" like i have you don't lol.

Apparently all the performance parts in the world, with paperwork to prove it, doesn't mean anything if there is a spot or two of rust underneath it

Each Day I read this and I know the pain your going through. If by some miracle if this thing is still in your possession in a month or so, I may need to haggle with the wife on this thing. (I would have to sell BOTH of my 4runners for that to happen though)

This is so sad, a beautiful truck on a rusting frame. That rear axle has it too. I'd love to see the whole frame/truck in person. People get scared of rust if they're not from the salt belt.

People are scared of this rust role. It's from the inside out. They/me wonder where else is it on the frame? Is it rotting on the inside & not showing through yet? It becomes a safety issue. I could fix that one spot next spring, (I dont have a garage) but what else is hiding? $5500 is a lot to gamble away. Be happy you have a garage, I dont! You can heat it!

My truck's been in NY for 16 years & you have to take it to the car wash after every snowstorm to get that salt off.

let me ask you a question though... is there any amount of money I could ask for this truck that would "overcome" people's fears of the rust and make them come buy it, knowing that they'll have to work on the rust eventually?

if there ISN'T... I'm just going to take the trade on it then.... because I'm seriously not begging people to buy it.

i DID spend many times at the carwash in the self service bay spraying underneath it. I live in the adirondack state park... we've had some "storms" up here last for a long time.... last year the city i grew up in a few towns over now.. "Glens Falls, NY", was on the news for being -24 degrees for a few days, a record low. i didn't have a garage at that time either... so yeah whatever salt was there, was there until it got a little warmer.

If i had to choose a place to live weather wise it wouldn't be here, but my job is here, my family is here... friends... some cold weather and some salt seem better than hurricanes... floods... tornados... and wild fires... which are prevalent in other areas of the country....

by comparison i think some snow seems rather harmless lol

anyways...

Let say, for sake of argument... i dropped the car to $4500...

think someone could come buy it then? or would there still be hemming and hawing...

Bump for you. Not going to help, but if you were closer and I didn't have 4 4runners in the family already I would nab this in a second. Hell i would take on another if you were within reasonable distance. I'm very surprised this is still around. I would be give it a little more time. Only takes that one person to see it and purchase it. If you were in Utah, it would be gone, by me. :rockon:

I think it depends on the person buying it. If they want to keep it for a long time they'll pass when they see rust. Especially if they see a rotted hole. Surface rust is normal for a vehicle of this age.
If the person is looking for a winter beater yours might be the truck but with all of those performance mods you wont let it go cheap. It's a tough decision for you & the buyer.
Even for a do-it-your-selfer it will be a ***** to work on. Striping nuts, snapping bolts, ask me how I know! LOL
I'd like to come look at it but there's only 2 weekends left before Christmas & life is busy.

Edit- I had a question, when did you put those OME springs in? They look more rusted than my original 99's that I took off last May.

OME springs receipt photo was attached several messages ago. They were purchased on 11/12/2010 and installed 7 days later on 11/19/2010.

the Odometer read 150,328. It currently reads 191,380.

I cleaned up this thread a bit, deleted some of my useless rambling.

Changed the price in the thread title to $5000...

the wheels are sold now... PIAA's are still available but off the front bar and unwired. nothing else has changed.

tomorrow I may be able to get it up on a lift at my family dealership and get a mechanic to give me his opinion... perhaps take some more photos

that's a big maybe.... they're very busy there and i would be wasting their vaulable time after they've helped me so much... but i'll try...

at the price I am asking I feel like there is room for someone to budget out some rust repair work for those who think it needs it.

SALE PENDING for $5,000 to local buyer...(yes he got under and looked around with a flashlight, in my paved lighted garage...)

While I do I have videos taken from underneath the truck on a lift that i can post if this sale falls through (although i don't think it will)

...it really only is bad in that one area... rear passenger side on the surface facing inwards...

everything else appears to be normal... for a north eastern vehicle.

I expect the sale to be finished in the next 48-72 hours, I will keep this thread updated.

Glad to hear. I envy all your mods. I need to start modding my supercharger. Hope the sell goes through.
