SOLD!!
Very reliable, well-taken care of 1997 4Runner. Built right (all Toyota parts) and can take on about anything you can throw at it. It’s perfect for Colorado.
Price: $6200 as is (everything you see minus the hi-lift jack…and I might just give that away too). $5500 without the Kenwood deck, Kicker subs, Kenwood amp, sliders (see below) and Smittybuilt winch (and no hi-lift either).
I’ll go over the bad stuff first (not much to speak of, but a few minor things):
1. Minor oil leak. Valve cover gaskets. Easy fix, just don’t have time. But it’s really slow…about the time you think you should consider adding oil, it’s time to change it anyway. Fix em or just drive it.
2. Brakes. The backs are fine, but the front rotors are a little warped. It will stop you just fine, but eventually, you’ll want to do the Tundra brake mod. I was going to, but ran out of time. Salvage lot Tundra rotors and calipers can be bought for about $200. Once again, fix them or wait if you’re on a budget…they’ll stop you, they just shimmy a bit when coming to a stop sign. Braking at faster highway speeds is fine and I don’t ever notice an issue then.
3. Loose steering. I do have all the parts to take care of this issue and I’ll hand them over. I have new lower ball joints (OEM), new uppers (555 Senkei), and new inner and outer tie rod ends. Take the parts, put them in yourself, then get the $60 alignment and be done with it. Once again…no time to do this myself.
4. 201833 miles…but hey, it’s 16 years old and it’s a Toyota. If you know these trucks, you know they can handle it.
And that’s it. All of the bad can be fixed with about $300 dollars if you’re mechanically inclined and can do the work yourself. I just don’t have the time.
Now for the good:
Passed emissions a few months back and I have proof of that. Also has a brand new windshield.
Lift – 3” front via the Tundra TRD Bilstein struts and 1” top plate spacer. 4.25” rear via Land Cruiser 8-wrap coils and Pro Comp ES9000 shocks.
Tires – 285/70-17 Goodyear Duratracs. About 3200 miles (plenty of tread left…about 90%).
Gear Ratio – 4.56. The rear axle is from a 2000 limited 4Runner and the front is from a 2002 Tacoma.
E-locker – Yes. And it’s wired (weather-proof) to a personalized switch from 5-Volt Guy. The bezel says “True Friend”. Works great.
Sliders – Yes, but they aren’t welded on (again, no time). They’re yours with all the other goodies listed at the $6200 price.
More stuff – Muffler is less than a year old, the rear diff breather mod has been done (runs up to the inside of the gas tank filler lid), Midland CB and red whip antenna, Kenwood deck (all the goodies except Bluetooth), Kenwood 800W 2-channel amp, Kenwood 6.5” rear 3-way speakers, Kenwood 5” 2-way front speakers, Kenwood 2” tweeters, Kicker XPL 12” subs in band-pass box, Smittybuilt XRC-8000 winch with cover (winch can be removed, as it’s mounted in a front receiver hitch), rear custom swing-down tire carrier (the entire carrier can be removed in under 30-secs and it also has mounts for the hi-lift), a pair of 6” off-road lights with KC covers (the lights are from Autozone and actually work pretty darn good).
Everything works – power windows, sun/moon roof, air, heat, lights, key fobs, etc. I’ve been diligent on oil changes (runs full synth), and have receipts for a ton of work. I must admit, I was not as well versed on these vehicles when I first got it (over 10 years ago...second owner), so the timing belt didn’t get changed until the odometer was all the way to 153402, but that just means it’s still got life left (next one is officially due around 250000…still lots of time left). I have the receipt to prove that. I also have all the receipts for the build.
Thanks for looking.
