Yesterday I was looking for some 4Runner parts in Houston (Airline Rd area) and I found this Highlander/Sport Edition scooped hood. This is a rare find - it is only the 2nd scooped hood that I've seen in a salvage yard in over a year and I visit them several times a month. This is from a "fresh" 2000 4Runner that arrived Friday and was just starting to get picked apart. Before I got there someone had already bought the engine and some other parts. I purchased the drivers-side headlight, which was in perfect condition, and this hood.

Obviously the hood needs to be repainted on the top. Most of the clear coat and factory black paint is gone as far as I can tell. It looks like there is a little surface rust that has started to form on some of the metal, but this is barely there. The scoop insert is completely intact. The "points" near the windshield and the front corners are in perfect condition - not bent. There is no damage or dents, but there are several very slight depressions where the heel of the owner's hand used to slam down the hood. I am a very detailed person and did not even see these when the hood was still on the vehicle - they are barely noticeable and probably easily repaired.

The underside is in excellent condition. Everything is there including the heat shield, underside attachments for the scoop insert, and the clips for the washer fluid line.

I'll try to get it cleaned up and post some better pics later today if it hasn't already sold. I can drive 30 minutes in any direction from B-CS to meet someone. This hood makes more sense to sell locally, so no shipping requests please.

Thanks. I couldn't believe it when I saw this 4Runner. This black 4Runner was beautiful (except of course that it was wrecked).

In this area of Houston (Airline Rd) there are probably over 100 Salvage Yards. This is the first time that I have looked for 4Runners in this area. I saw about 15 crappy 3rd Gens before I came across this gem. I was nervous about leaving this one because I had to go to a nearby gas station and withdraw cash. There were people in the area who were looking at this nice black 4Runner.

I need a tan cargo cover and this one still had one, but it was all covered in grease. It looks like they had thrown some oily parts on it.

It is a relief to finally have an OEM Sport hood. This is one of the harder OEM parts to find in my opinion. I looked for my Stellar Blue Sport hood for over a year.

Price reduced to $195... I don't want my money tied up in this hood for very long. The total for my headlight and this hood combined was $275 - there wasn't a separate price for each item. I am going to pretend that my headlight was very expensive. In reality I probably paid $200 for the hood since most headlights from a salvage yard shouldn't cost over $75.

Keep in mind that the scoop insert itself cost $125 from Toyota and there is nowhere else that you can buy the insert.

If you don't want to pay to have it color matched now you can paint it flat black now and it will look mean installed like that.

If I was a bit closer, I'd run and grab it. I've only been home a week, though, so I think my girlfriend would kill me if I went on another multi-day parts run. :)
 
im interested..... i will hold off for a bit though because its at the end of my list of things to get....unless you know of anyone wanting a stock black fading hood with a small dent for like 50 so i can get rid of mine and get yours
 
I don't know anyone looking for a stock flat hood - I haven't sold my Stellar Blue flat hood and it is in perfect condition. You can buy the 13-inch hood scoop insert from Toyota for $125 and hang it in on the wall or buy my hood for $195, paint it flat black, and drive around town today looking like a BAD ASS!

I'm giving this hood away at $195. Don't hesitate if you want it. I want the money to head out of town for half a day since I don't have to work.

Another thought... If you are painting this hood flat black you can paint the hood scoop insert to match your 4Runner's paint. This will give the Sport hood a nice contrast and help to tie it in with your factory paint job.
