Things are absolutely quiet with the fairing...will share pics when done thanks to [MENTION=68079]drabbits[/MENTION]

lol @ snow comment. Actually Mammoth has done a great job along with Mother Nature to keep things going this year...regardless I am up there 3 out 4 weekends each month - look around Parking B - you can't miss my truck. Next year looks to be an El Nina year - crazy snow. Hopefully this holds true.

I get out Redondo/Manhattan beach occasionally for business but never up in the mountains there. I ski a lot here in CO, we have a place in Summit County but it's so hard to think about spending money to ski outside of Colorado, the one time we went to Utah the snow was better here. Every storm that has hit the east coast and south this year has come through CO, so it's been a great year. I'm just hoping to have the rack on for the summer and working to talk my wife into a road trip through Moab and back through the southern route through Durango (up to Crested Butte to visit a friend) and the sand dunes. Wow it sure is rough living in Colorado… although previously lived in Asheville NC. Talk about lucky, haha.

Now about that rack… I've got a good idea on what i'm doing for lighting and as always thanks to this site I should be able to copy what others have done to get the results that I am looking for! The wiring will be a little intimidating but I have a good idea of what will be needed so should just take some planning.

Do yourself a favor and discuss the lighting and exact specs with Alex. He'll be able to help you greatly with welded tabs and pre drilling holes for wiring. You also need to think about where the wiring will run from within the truck - through the SAT antenna or the wiper grommet? This will dictate where the holes are drilled into the rack. Also plan your switches...is it one light or many lights...your gonna have to run a hot wire for each switch and can probably only go up to three 14Ga wires comfortably. Also note that running the wire to the front wasn't too bad/too difficult, but running it back to the rear and around the unique SAT antenna design would be tougher.

You should also consider daisy chaining the lights at one DT connector...by making one female to two (or three) DT males... this will help - but obviously only for one switch but multiple lights. Some things to think about.

Regardless if you know the light...get the exact specs and hook up with [MENTION=68079]drabbits[/MENTION] to get tabs welded on - you will be way happier you did that - trust me.

Mammoth is 5.5 hours drive from Redondo/Manhattan. Basically it is on the backside of Yosemite and 2 hours from Tahoe. It is located within the tallest mountain range in the continental US (Whitney - Eastern Sierras)

Not close to LA...lol - but definitely the spot to go for real skiing in CA as the terrain is huge.

Would love to go to Colorado but I am in the same boat...I have a place in Mammoth and a season pass...don't have to haul stuff or pay for a hotel...makes going there very easy and when it dumps the snow is ridiculously good and their season can be extremely long (Early November to July 4).

Definitely a lot to think about, honestly I just figured I'd wait for pictures of what you did and pretty much copy it, likely with a smaller light. Haha
 
Forgot to mention you want to do all the design and customizations, etc... BEFORE powder coating...lol.
 
I had the rack delivered to my dad's business and was able to make it home this weekend. Not enough time to install the rack, but I unwrapped everything in the garage and all I have to say is WOW.

Beautiful work, incredible care taken to ship it, and overall just super pleased with the product. It looks better than in pictures, the welds are sick, and it overall is just a great piece of craftsmanship.

Drabbits does an amazing job - its worth even the updated pricing and then some. You won't be disappointed folks!

I PM'd with him on 2/17, I'm sure he's just busy with orders. Hopefully not sick again, I've had a head cold myself and no motivation to work. Not that the two are all that related, haha.

Have y'all tried to text Alex? He responded back to me within the hour when we were working out shipping details. Email reply was usually a day or two, forum PMs were longer...

I know in the process of finishing up my rack Alex was having issues with his powdercoater and was having lead times pushed out due to that, so he's probably still sorting that out. Other than that, I wouldn't worry too much folks, Alex is great to work with and has fabricated a terrific roof rack! :bigok:

I have a set of the dually's in the lower front rigid grille, they are the driving beam and they would not be good for the rack, maybe the diffused would provide good spread but the SR would likely fit better given the shape/size. I saw your post in another thread and someone's response about putting lights in the rear bumper, that seems more practical to me because most of the time I'm behind my truck I have the lift gate open. But I guess it depends on your needs and wiring ability. I think the folks that put lights on the back of the rack want it for offroading, for me it would be camping usage mostly. Different usage dictates different lights I suppose.

I have not (mostly b/c I don't have his cell). I'm assuming it is somewhere back in the thread and missed it, so I'll go fishing in a bit!
 
Got mine installed last night! Took me a few hours by myself, but no real issues. Everything was packaged and labeled well. Just took a little time. I was up waaayy to late fiddling with the wind fairing so I forgot to take pictures of the final product. I still want to fine tune the fairing though, as I think it still sits a little high up and will block out any lights up there. But for now Alex has included a curve in the bottom of the fairing and mine sits flush with some cheapo weather stripping I had laying around. Absolutely no added wind noise driving to work this morning!
