So I finally came across a late model 3rd Gen maplight assembly for you 99+ guys. I will have to come up with a clean way of doing it yet but I just want to confirm, the pictured assembly is the only model for '99-02 4Runners? TIA

Yes, that maplight design is the same as in my 1999 with no sunroof. I've seen the 99-02 maplights with sunroof, the switches look the same, there is just an extra toggle for the sunroof.
