FS: Two 3rd Gen Sport Hoods - Texas

GRAY 001 is still available.

After the green hood sold I had about 3 buyers who wanted to buy it. Obviously the time to buy these is when they are still for sale. If your 4Runner has factory paint in one of the six colors the Sport hood was offered in you should go ahead and get it. Painting and color-matching these hoods (and blending the paint into the fenders) with another color is not cheap.

If your 4Runner is not one of these six colors it probably doesn't really matter which color you buy since it will be repainted anyway. You could always paint it flat black until you are ready to spend the money to have it color-matched. If you paint it flat black it would probably look sharp to color match the scoop insert to your factory paint. Most people can paint the scoop insert at home.

Shipping is difficult and expensive. I shipped a Sport hood to California and started a tutorial thread about the entire process. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/188609-tutorial-shipping-sport-hood-greyhound-texas-california.html Shipping the hood on Greyhound cost just under $150. The buyer paid me $150 for supplies, packing, boxing, and transporting the boxed hood to Greyhound. The cost for the hood itself was $395.

The project was successful as the hood arrived in Cailfornia undamaged. The supplies, including a custom box, cost just over $200. I drove to Dallas (6-hour round trip) to pick up the box. Outside of getting the box much time was spent doing everything necessary to box the hood. If you read the thread it will be obvious that I cannot do this for $150 - I lost $50 on supplies alone.

I wanted to ship a Sport hood so that I could have a better idea of the time and expense involved. Now that I have done it I know that there is much more time and expense on the "handling" side than I anticipated. I wouldn't say that won't ship another Sport hood, but it would require much more than a $150 handling fee. I think it would be more than most would be willing to pay.

I just thought about something with getting the hoods to farther out places. Come the end of the month there are lots of T4R, Tacoma, and FJ guys coming from far to go to the Lone Star Jamboree in Gilmore TX. This looks like it's about 3 hours from you. Maybe if someone in FL wants a hood and knows someone from FL or somewhere near going to the Jamboree they could pick up the hood and bring it back or so.

Just a thought because I know most of us don't have the ability to find one of these hoods in a salvage yard anywhere near us...

Who is going to buy this Gray hood? You can pay for it now and I can hold it for you while you figure out how to pick it up. I've done this for several 4Runner owners. I can hold the hood for you for months if necessary.
 
I have a question about the green 4runner you got the hood from. What happened to the rest of it? Looks like it was in pretty good shape, was it being parted out by someone else?
 
I drove up there and bought the front bumper & grill off that green T4R. They also got me a black sport hood that I am using as a temp while I continue shopping for a green sport hood.

I had been reading that that's why I was curious of what you would charge to ship it out to me. If it was something you would do.

OK, I wasn't sure if you had read that post and/or the tutorial thread. When I shipped out the hood to California I charged a $150 boxing/handling/supplies fee. The supplies were over $200 (including the custom box that cost $67) so obviously that amount won't work if I decide to ship another hood. In addition to $200 for supplies I'm not sure that I would do it for even a $500 handling fee. Obviously the supplies ($200), the Greyhound shipping fee ($150), and the handling fee ($500+) would be much more than the actual cost of the Sport hood, so it just doesn't make sense. That box and the entire process just took over my life for about a week and a half. With the box taking up so much room I couldn't even get in and out of my studio apartment without climbing over my bed (of course it doesn't help that I have an ARB front bumper and a Shrockworks rear bumper already taking up space).
