Fuel filter recommendations

I slapped a wix on mine and reused the bracket. Wix makes good filters, and if you're going to go aftermarket, then it's best to try to use the quality parts. As for me, nothing has exploded yet soooo...

Or you can do what toyota recommends and not replace it. They are supposed to be lifetime filters.

I don't believe in anything "lifetime" like the ATF on the newer BMW's.

Land Rover claimed the ATF in the ZF trans on mine was lifetime. Turned out ZF put out a service bulletin clearing stating the fluid should be changed under normal use @ 120K, under heavy use @ 80K.

lifetime != forever, you got that right on.

I'm not Normally a Kool-Aid pusher, and it's a dang fuel filter... metal can stuffed with paper, not exactly a complex mechanical component. You have to decide for yourself...

I replaced my original-install 1999 filter just the other day. I'm fine with OEM that'll go 20 years and 200k miles. Probably Won't do that, but overkill is fine as that difference in money isn't a big deal to me.

I had to replace mine last weekend. Got mine from a 2009 Honda Accord V6 with 45k miles on it ahhaahahaha $25 bucks from junk yard! It is just a fuel pump. It drives so much better. Got more fuel going to the rails and all that good stuff.

I guess everyone is different, but for such a small savings, why use aftermarket? The clear cut choice to me is to use an OEM fuel filter and try to save money somewhere else in your life if money is tight. Don't buy your Starbucks triple mocha latte for a couple days. Eat at home instead of going out to eat. In my opinion, the peace of mind you're buying by going with OEM is worth it. We know OEM fuel filters can give you 100's of thousand trouble-free miles. Will the Wix or other aftermarket filter do the same? Nobody probably knows because they haven't been able to put 200-300k on a Wix or other aftermarket fuel filter. Go with the proven OEM filter and call it a day.

Yeah, for something that you change every 200k or so why bother cheaping out. Especially on something that can leave you stranded it if collapses etc.

Reusable Bracket

How did you get the bracket off the original? 10 mm wrench? I've been soaking the bolt / nut with Kroil and can't get it loose. The nut appears to be tack-welded to the frame so I am assuming the bolt comes out.

I also ordered Wix not realizing it didn't come with bracket. I've also now ordered an OEM with bracket but would hold the OEM if I could get the bracket onto the Wix. Thanks.

There is no trick to it, just loosen the bolt and the bracket will slide off the filter. If it is too rusty to get the bolt out then I guess that is another issue. Cut and replace the bolt?

Oh man, I'm pretty sure I was able to pry it enough to slip the old one out, or maybe i did just unbolt it, can't quite remember.

I replaced my fuel filter last weekend and it was more work than I thought. Saw online videos and thought it would be easier than an oil change. But on the 3rz-fe vehicles the filter is under the intake manifold.
