Fuel gage issues

I recently bought a 97 4 runner and the fuel gage is stuck on full. We changed the entire gage panel on it (due to other issues), and it still goes up to full. So we are going to drop the tank and take a look at the fuel sending sensor tomorrow and see if cleaning it may help. i called dealership today (only place i found that carries it) and its $235! So here is my question. If I get an Ultra gage will it work right if my sending sensor isn't working?

yes ultra gauge fuel reading is done by some inputs you do during start up (size of tank, MPG, and few others)

so it does not actually read the sender unit, just calculates your variables and inputs.
