Fuel pump issue.

So, the fuel pump died last weekend, so I ordered a new one from Rockauto and it arrived yesterday. So I dropped the tank, only to find someone had put in a Walbrof 277 high volume pump. So, I've got to get a new connector to put the factory one back in. My question is, will switching back to the factory one hurt any performance? Or should I send the one back to Rockauto, and order another 277.

You'll lose no performance putting a stock pump back in. The walbro wasn't doing anything if the rest of the motor is stock (no turbo/supercharger)

Do you know if the fuel injectors were replaced with higher cc? That would be the reason for the higher output pump. If they were replaced then I'm pretty sure (not positive) you will notice a difference. He may have had 318s on there with an SC before you picked it up.

quick question, but did you notice any signs of the fuel pump failing before it crapped out?
this always worries me how it will fail or if there is any way to check/ recommended changeout vs mileage

Yes, but I dismissed it as a poor connection somewhere. Every so often, completely random, the truck wouldn't crank. I could pull the harness loose from the tank, and normally it would crank. This time, it didn't help. Mechanic sad to tap it with a rubber mallet and see if the pump would kick on. It did, which he indicated that the windings inside were failing.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm always paranoid of this item failing ,, even though my mileage is only 200K KM,, i plan on eventually changing this out if i ever notice signs you mentioned

Just put a walbro 190 in mine, have the stock plug still if you want. Can get it out today most likely if you PM me your address.

The fuel pump won't change anything on a tune unless it's over running the stock fuel pressure regulator. Even with larger injectors. All the pump does is not run out if your using that much fuel.

Many install walbros because they are cheap.

Most likely was a 190lph. A 255hp will over run a stock fuel pressure regulator causing a super rich fuel map.

No start. Then smack tank when cranking. If it fires up than pump is failing.

Well, it's been in for a week now, no noticable difference in performance. All is right in the world.
