Today out driving my fuel pump became noticible louder. And it was actually cutting out at low speeds. like from the traffic light accerlerate and it would cut out about 4-5 times then it would reach about 10 MPH and start driving ok. I could drive it on the interstate at 70 fine. But anytime I would come to a stop and start out again. it would start cutting out again. I also am notiving the (I guess) thye fuel pump sound wineing and it is going up and down. If you could picture a sound wave going up and down. Not rpm of the engine. but coming fromn the gas tank area. Is this the fuel pump going bad or is it the fuel filter needing changed. Any help would be great. I am new to the 4runner world, and my wife is already saying I told you so... Help me out here guys. It is the v6, it has 172000, The original owner changed the fuel pump at 40,000. At Toyota dealership.

I replaced my fuel filter last week, $39 from the stealership. Easy to do but getting the fuel lines seated in the filter properly is a little tricky. Huge improvement in throttle response. Highly recommended.
