Fuel Pump Recall

Thank you to all of you who have posted your experiences.

If not for you all, I wouldn't have known that I could schedule my recall appointment now.

Still no official notification from Toyota that the remedy is available.
But, got the fuel pump replaced yesterday.
Then today another dealership I have visited texted me to make an appointment.
Surprised no word from Toyota themselves.

Got mine replaced on Saturday. Took around 3 hours.

Going in Friday. Took off skid myself so they don't strip anything. Noticed this:

I had my Fuel Pump done today. Took my RCI skid off for them, I asked them to look at my KDSS bushings, the clamps had come off , wanted to here what they had to say.This is what they wrote " Recommend replacing both front inner sway bar bushings ,note sway bar bushings not covered under warrenty due to aftermarket Lift Kit. $ 1197 parts,$ 266 labour each side. WTF . now I know why they call it Steeler Ship. He tells me they dont have replacement Bushing , so they replace the whole thing , ya over $ 2900 bucks. So I said that is very odd since you parts guy just sold me replacement Bushing just a couple months ago, I paid $ 39 for each. Well I guess iI got what I wanted, Ill be replacing them soon. I hope there is no more recalls so I never have to go back agian. Also for you guys on the fence about getting this recall done , asked how many Fuel Pump failures there seeing , he said not even one yet.

Fuel pump recall done today along with "required maintenance". In and out in just a little over 2 hours. I haven't had a chance to inspect the skids yet!

Dropped mine at the dealer. He said a few things.

1) They have done a couple hundred and seen no problems.
2) The failures tend to occur in hot areas - Arizona, Nevada, etc. (I live in Seattle so 75 is a warm day here.)

They also gave me a Lyft to and from dealer that is super convenient.

The person checking me in asked me if I wanted to be put on the list for the pump change and of course I said yes. She told me that I will be notified when the part comes in and I can make an appointment for the fuel pump change.Welll I havent heard a thing about it yet. I dont think Toyo has redesigned or has a fix yet.

Call them and make an appointment... Or find another dealer.

The fuel pump has been redesigned and they do have a fix. This thread is loaded with owners who have had the old pump replaced. Toyota is managing parts availability. Be proactive with your dealer in pursuing an appointment. If they are unresponsive, go to another dealer.

I just called and got an appointment. You don't have to wait for them to contact you. They needed 1 day to get parts in.

Not sure if similar situation was mentioned on this ultra long thread:

Made an online appointment after vin number indicated the recall. Dealership called to confirm appointment but asked me to bring in the truck at half a tank or less as “it’s safer for the mechanic to drop the tank”.

Similar. My dealer requested no more than one quarter full.

Fuel Pump Replaced - Next Day Code P0455

I got my fuel pump replaced and the next day the check engine and tract off lights came on. I pulled the code and it shows P0455. I checked the gas cap and it was tight. Now back to the dealer to see what they did wrong.

Prob didn’t reconnect one of the evap lines or damaged a sensor. Keep us updated.

I received my recall notice in the mail today. Gonna make an appt as soon as I can get some time away from work. Glad its gonna get fixed. Thanks to all that responded.

Is the fuel pump in the tank? I get a weird motor noise from just above the spare when the car isnt on or key in ingnition. Just starts running sometimes.

Getting mine done tomorrow, just dropped it off tonight. Getting an alignment done as well, put a lift on last weekend. When I scheduled they said quarter tank or less and nothing in the back seat. Hopefully there isn't any issues with it afterwards. Only have 19.5k miles on and have never had a problem with the fuel pump

I have heard mine do that as well. My brother's 2020 tacoma does as well. I noticed mine do it when it was sitting for several hours after driving and the temp changed. Opened the gas tank and there was a lot of vapor pressure in it. Guessing something to do with Evap emissions.

That’s a common question and normal. Anywhere from 3-5 hours after sitting, the vehicle will do a system test. It last about 10 minutes or so. There’s an explanation in the owners manual.
