Of course the temp has to drop 10 degrees when I want to get this done.

The local dealer had the housing/tank seal in stock, so my guess is the failure rate on those is high. Those guys don't stock anything they are not using every week. He said it was an upgraded version, which the rubber is fairly robust to say the least. Hopefully, the tank drop will go smoothly. I would like to get the tank down to at least 1/4 full. I'll post pics when I drop the tank.

Isn't there an access panel for the tank under the rear seat? Most vehicles including my 88 4runner has one. If there is one then you wouldn't need to drop the tank.

Gotcha! I have only had 1st and 4th gen runners. Maybe some day I can add a trekker to my list

There is, but for God-knows-why, they offset the dumb thing about 6-8 inches, so all it's good for is a visual inspection--no touch, and certainly no removal through there. Bizarre. Must be from the same guy who designed their exhaust system!
