fuel saving upgrades?

There are a few questions I have about making some investments that could improve gas mileage (hopefully). It's time to do the fuel filter, even though Toyota says it's guaranteed for life. I am going to do new plugs and wires, but am wondering if it's wise to invest a lot of money here on brands which I don't know or haven't found product reviews on. I put a Amsoil air filter in recently, and have heard it is good to check the MAF sensor as well. In addition the O2 sensor seems a little labor intensive to test and at 133,000 miles, perhaps it'd be wise to replace it, even though they are pricey.

So...if there is anyone with advice in these venues or knows of reliable brands to go with for making me ole rig save a bit more money on road trips...that would be most excellent!

It's always nice to tune up your vehicle, but unless the old parts are in seriously bad condition, I wouldn't look at it as an investment that will pay off in increased fuel economy.

Even if you did manage to improve your fuel economy slightly, it probably wouldn't offset the money you spent on the parts for a long, long time.

That's not to say that you shouldn't do it.....but just be realistic about it and realize that your fuel economy isn't likely to improve more than a little bit at most.

From experience (and that of others here) stick with OEM wires and plugs. The worst plugs in my experience are the Bosch platinum ones - they cause a lot of misses. Any set of plug wires over 5 years is prime for replacement. Not only will your get better gas milease but you won't pollute the air as much.
