Fuel System Problems

Ok, So i posted earlier about my vapor canister replacement but I'm pretty sure that is not the problem. Sunday I unhooked the vapor canister fuel line to see what would happen since im not driving it because the alternator is dead. So today I go out and undo the gas cap and it's still building up pressure in the gas tank. When I unhooked the gas line to the vapor canister I blew in it to see what happened and I could hear the air blowing and making the gas bubble.
So hear is my thought: The line is too far in the tank not allowing it to release the pressure thus causing my problem of it building up pressure. .
wanted to see what you guts thought!

My runner has always had pressure in the tank when I take the cap off.
There usually is a test to determine if a vapor cannister is working correctly. Usually involves a vacuum tool like a mighty vac. Maybe you did this...I didn't see your other post.

Gas smells...well I've had an intermittent problem. Pretty sure it is the regulator type thing on the back underneath the intake. What a pain. Haven't gotten to it yet.
 
Ya but so bad that if u drive 10 miles it leaks a big pool of gas all over the parking lot from up by the vapor canister? I understand building up pressure but this is definately a unhealthy building up of pressure and not natural

:awais: True....are you sure the leak is some how from the vapor canister, the fuel lines run up the passenger side of the truck.

I have the same problem I believe with my 93 4runner. I just bought it and it seems to leak gas and I think it is at the canister (but I have not taken the tank off yet) I have a ton of pressure in the tank as the original poster mentioned. any way to fix this? Would drilling a small hole in the gas cap to releive the pressure help or hinder?
 
I have always had pressure built up too, in my 95 4R.
It has not built to the point of concern, although, when it is hot and the gas tank is running low, I have had some pretty good build up.

No. Don't drill the cap. Something else is wrong. A mechanic I know said he deals with this alot and it is usually a checkvalve in the vapor lines that goes bad. Sorry I can't pinpoint it for ya.
 
that makes perfect sense. As of late I had not been tightening the cap so that is 'clicks' and the pressure in the tank was much less obviously and it did not leak, then I started to get an engine code and thought maybe it was because of that so i started to tighted the cap up again and low and behold the leaking started again. I have a good idea where that valve is and when I get at it to replace I will do so. Also I could fill up the tank when the cap was not on tight and the tank did not leak so i now now it is most likely that valve. THANKS!
 
I got it fixed. When the Dealer replaced the fuel pump they got the vent line and return line switched around because they had part of the line replaced with rubber hose! Thanks for your help!
