Fuel Tank Relocation (and new Rear Bumper design)

I'm mostly wondering how the weight will affect the suspension. In handling too, but mostly just how much the weight- being leveraged over the axle- will change ride height.
After seeing [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION]'s pics, I know the 861's are way too tall for me. Maybe I'll have to be the guinea pig to try the 5th gen Superflex.
I do love our rigs with no rear bumpers-

Do you have on-board air? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of going to airbags in my Toytec 3" coils when I add my bumper. When I talked to Roy at Savage I asked him about his thoughts on rear suspension with weight. IE, LC 8 or 9 wraps or OME 861's. His response caught me a little off guard. He said he, and a lot of his buddies, prefer using airbags over either. It's got me thinking for sure. Plus, I already have OBA.

Really?! I haven't seen anything else like his at all! There is a dude building front bumpers that posted on the 3rd gen Mafia FB page, and it looks like a spitting image of Bandits. He claims he'd never seen Bandits before when I "called him out" on it. I'd say I 60% believe him. There are definitely design differences-

Hm, I guess that's not a bad idea at all. I don't like adding things like that; I like to keep it simple with springs and shocks. It it probably really would be a great option, and I will consider that.
I have poor man's OBA- a 12v plug in harbor freight compressor [emoji23] It works though, and it would definitely pump the bags up just fine.

Definitely more than welcome to use any of my design. I definitely take it as a compliment. Are you planning to chop the bottom of the quarter panels too?

I kinda noticed that too but wasn't going to say anything because it definitely has its own differences. I've gotten inspiration from so many different sources for things that I have built, that can't complain when someone does the same. If anything it's a compliment.

Also for weight, I bet the ride height will be perfect with the FJ80 coils or super flex. I like lower ride height and no rake, so I'm definitely looking forward to another inch lower in the rear hopefully. Plus having less weight forward of the rear axle will have less weight leveraged on the front suspension. I've noticed when I have a bunch of weight in the rear, my 4runner rides so nice through the fast stuff. Between the lower ride height of the rear and weight leveraging towards the rear, it makes for a better ride in my opinion. Some folks like that raked stance and I'm not sure why. Maybe to keep from bottoming out easy? I don't mind being a hair lower in the rear when fully loaded with lots of weight. If I ever needed to tow anything (probably never) I'd look into air bags though.

Oh really? That's good to know. I assume the shocks being ran makes a significant difference in how it handles with more or less weight too.

Well, my tank was damaged during shipping; it's replacement will arrive Tuesday (so no weekend update on this from me)

I'd make it out of radiator hose. This way you always have a spare upper and lower hose. I think I'm actually serious. But if you must do it the pro way then SS.
