Full Open Throttle!

Hey everyone. A while back i had posted about an annoying problem with my sticking gas pedal. I've been living with it awhile but had the T4R over at the mechanic for something else and I asked him about lubing the throttle cable - as someone on the board had suggested - he pulled on the cable and said he'd do what i ask but did not think that is the problem. So I asked him to just pull off the throttle body and see wtf is going on in there. I had tried seafoam cleaner and the front part of the TB was super clean - but the back part of it - i had held the TB open when i seafoamed but apparently that is simply not good enough. The back part was all gunky. And there are a series of tiny holes back there - that were all clogged up with gunk. A mega cleaning with ether and wire brush and more ether - after I started the Runner i knew immediately it was solved and not only that, it drives like - well kinda like it did when i first got it. My truck has 104K miles on it, and i've been living with it for at least 10K miles. I figured i would post this as a follow up, in case anyone else has this kind of issue, or thinks a real good throttle body cleaning (removed) should be added to a 90-100K maintenance.

Yes, to properly clean the TB, it should be pulled from the intake and cleaned on both sides. That butterfly valve can stick to the cylinder. My wife had an older Blazer that this happened on....however, it was sticky when the valve was closed and she had to push the pedal hard to get it to unstick. A good cleaning and the problem went away.

Looks like that has been a Toyota thing lately with gas pedals sticking wide open:biggrin2:
