Full time 4x4 disadvantages?

Interesting. Good to know. Thanks. How are you liking your '08? Did you get a good deal? '08's are definitely out of my price range, especially with such low mileage. Would love one though.

I recently purchased an 06 4WD V8 Sport Edition with 28k miles and the only thing I have noticed with the 4WD system is when backing out of my garage and turning the wheel tight to make the turn the front wheels create a jerking/chirp. My garage door opens directly to a street (in apartment housing) and so I need to crank the wheel as soon as the front clears the garage siding - it is not cranked so far as to initiate the power steering stress sound. When I do this, I have noticed a slight chirp (similar to when turning hard in 4Lo on my old Jeep Cherokee) when the vehicle is cold. Otherwise, I don't notice the jurking when backing up or moving forward with the wheel cranked after the vehicle has warmed up.

06 not 08

It's a 2006. The 08s were out of my price range, too. I found this one for $19500, clean service record, 1 owner. So far it has been great. HUGE upgrade from the Cherokee. This forum site has been a great help in understanding a lot about the vehicle as well. Tons of great resources on here, but I need to focus on paying it off before I go too crazy with upgrades.

Oops, I meant '06. I love the Shadow Mica color, it was actually my first choice. I jsut can't afford anything close to 19,500. And even if a clean 05 came up it would have to have about 110k miles for it to be close to what I can get the 2003 with 22k miles for.

I think I'm going to just get the '03 and paint the cladding black. It's the only thing that really bugs me about it.

4x4 not..

Went to go see that 2003 v8 sport. it actually only has 22k miles, which is pretty amazing. But it turns out, it wasn't 4x4 which is kind of disappointing. Still, I drove because i dont NEED 4x4 and all I can compare it to is my grandpa's 2003 v8. that im driving now.

It didn't quite feel as good (my grandpas accelerates better) as his. Everything was REALLY tight though and clean. I just feel like it probably wasn't driven enough and needs a tune up? Do 4runners have a sensitive ECU and maybe i just need to reset it?

Also, their father in law didn't keep any maintenance receipts but they said he took care of it. I think I need to go back and stomp on it a little more to really decide, but it's not looking good. Will probably pass on it. 22k miles though!
