Well, I said I would post some new pictures reflecting my new equipment and here they are. In the end I am very happy with my decisions sans the Type R subs, looking to get a pair of AudioQue 15" subs and run them @ 1ohm for 2200RMS watts. The system currently slams but I'm a basshead! The new subs will require an 8 cubic foot box so I will not have any trunk! The rear quarter panels, window and tailgate flex when the music is cranking!

What's installed:

Kenwood DDX712 7" touchscreen DVD head unit w/ grounded parking break sensor

AudioQue AQ2200D 2200RMS @ 1ohm, currently running 1300RMS @ 2ohm.

Alpine PDX-5 101x4RMS @4ohm

Pair of 12" Alpine Type R 2ohm DVC subs to be upgraded to a pair of 15" AudioQue HDC315's

JL Components
JL Coaxials

KnuKnoceptz 1/0 gauge power cable throughout!

Looks nice man. I'm glad your happy with most of your equipment. The R's will get really loud. If you haven't already seen what Skip01 over on Caraudio.com did with his R's you should check it out. They were very close DB wise to some AQ subs if I remember correctly.
 
get some wire loom for ur power cable under the hood, and run it on the back of the engine aganst the firewall, doing what u did there will cause the wire to melt from the heat so be careful. did u do the big 3 upgrade to ur battery yet? i helps the charging system better. if i show u mines, itll look like a mess under my hood.
 
HOw did you run the signal from the amp under the seat to eh speakers?

The wire you used was a an all inclusive wire corect (had 9 different wire, 8 for the speakers and 1 for the signal?) You just used the RCA's from the HU to send signal to the amp then used the thick wire to send signal through the stock wiring??

Man you have good eyes. I paid $600 to have it installed and assumed that they would wire the doors. They didin't Im now disputing the charges with American Express after speaking with the installer. He insisted that it was sufficient based on the power to the amps; however, my factory harness and speaker's are destroyed because he didint want to spend an extra 20minutes and $20. As far as I know, Amex will side with my father and I - flawless credit history.

It still sounds awesome. I dont think that wireloom is necessary, emailed KnuKonceptz and the silicone around them is sufficient to stand up to engine heat.
 
So they didnt run better wires to the speakers from the 9-wire-thick cable? They just connected it to the stock harness wires and called it a day?

What kind of speakers did they mess up? And what do you mean by "destroyed"?

Also you should still consider putting wire loom, if you ever need to remove the wire from the engine..its alot worse when its dirty from buildup over the months. Plus it gets harder to change he fuse and move the wire around due to the grease and crap from the engine. just my .02

No they didnt run better wire from the 9-wire, they spliced into the factory wire and called it a day.

They messed up my factory speakers, they not only cut the clip to use the wire but the destroyed the rear speakers to use them as a bracket

I had wireloom included in the amp wiring kit i provided them. They didnt install it and didint return it. I asked for it and they still refused to give it to me.

They also took 10ft of knu 1/0ga power wire......you can see why im disputing this charge now
 
Next time have one of your buddies who's installed before help you do it yourself....only way it will get done right, plus only costs you a few beers :)

I see we have some similar equipment; i think i like more bumps in the trunks though lol! You have a nice install as well. What made you jump for the DDX812 over the 712....i didin't need BT and the 5v preouts were only on the 5.1 setup.

wow they are pricks...jesus...sorry man..hope it all works out...

I think the 9-thick-wire qoulc have worked if you had it hooked up to aftermarket speakers..ven if they did cut the harness...the thing is that the amp load could have been too much and could have melted the wires..but maybe not because the stock wires are the same gauge as the 9-thick-wire. Did you actually want to amplify the stock speakers?
 
No I have all aftermarket equipment.....just sucks because its not plug and play when I want to take it out....not going to but its the idea that it was done incorrectly that pisses me off
 
Went with the 812 for the BT (very handy) and the 5v (just thought it might be more SQ)

Been very happy with the deck but can't wait to add navigation (didn't have the $$ at time of purchase plus got a great deal on the 812--$620 on Ebay).

I do miss my steering wheel controls though...might look into adding the PAC.

Not happy with the included plastic trim pieces for the install--look cheap. Did you use a kit?

Best part by far is the IPOD interface...so nice to have all my library plus ton of movies right there at my fingertips :)

I wish you could change the screen saver with family pics--I was able to change the background but not the screensaver.

not at all, it's completely relevant. I believe that the 5v preouts are only used when using 5.1 channel output not 4.1.....yea the ipod interface is great..but could be better IMO...there are the alphanumeric characters on the keys of the remote, why cant we get to the letter quickly using those?

what do you mean by screensaver?..perhaps its only a feature of the 812 but how do you activate it?

I will be getting nav shortly as well and yes I used the metra kit
 
There is only one set of preamp out's and I'm using all but the center channel I don't see how there would only be 5v if I had 5.1?

The sound quality is much better but I came from a Scion Pioneer deck so I'm not sure if it's the voltage or just the deck.

I really need to fine tune the equalizer but it seems so complicated with all the "zones" and options for listening fields etc. I had to turn the sub down to -6 because it was just bass...I just turn up the bass knob when I need more "boom".

I used to use a lot of mp3 discs in the Scion unit I tried one of those but there is no way to quickly get to say song 83 except to slowly move to next song...like you said why can't we use the number keys on the remote...grrr.

If you are playing a song either from a CD or from IPOD and you go back to where you can see the pic or the symbol that says "no picture" and you touch the pic you will get the screensaver...looks light blue with something like a fricken snowflake lol.

I wired the IPOD to that small black cubby above the glove box...also the USB port, very handy and out of the way.

I also might add sirius radio with the nav...not sure though.
