Fumoto oil drain valve questions

For those of you that have installed the F103N on your 4Runners. Do you need an adapter, or does it thread on without a problem? Also, was a torque wrench used to tighten the valve?

If somebody has a picture of the Fumoto installed that would be great too. I just ordered one because a few people here rave about them. I thought I would give it a try.

I love how much I learn about my truck from the forum!

No problem at All. . i think its the F-103(n). . . i got the nipple and i can now change the oil without ramps . . just feed the line into my drain bucket. . no mess. . Threads match up perfect. . excellent product.

for the response. Will the oval cover snap back on to cover the drain plug with (n) model? Or did you just leave the oval cover off? I know the F103n is a little longer than the regular F103.
 
I have about 3" between the cover and the 103N, plenty of room.

The valve came with a teflon washer. I just tightened it with a wrench. I don't think there is anyway to use a torque wrench.
 
With my V-6 and the 103 nipple version, the oval cover doesn't clear. I just left it off with a couple inches of hose attaching.

It's easy without the cover in place: push the oil pan under, reach under and flip the valve lever -- it's all one-handed so you're not even getting underneath.

Don't worry you'll lose that stupid plastic cover sooner or later anyway. :bash: :D

Almost as sure and paying taxes and death, 4runner owners will lose the oval plate AND the hitch receiver cover. One falls off, the other has help.
 
the clearance is close with the cover. i too have the v6. but it is not a problem. but you will lose the cover just like i did :) the plastic tabs wear out and you will be pulled over by a state trooper for littering :) j/k attaching a hose helps if it is windy outside.
 
I'm glad to see others have enjoyed the Fumoto on their 4Runners. I just got my 4Runner about a week ago and this was one of the first things I thought of. I have a Fumoto on my boat (320HP V8) and it is great. Thanks for those that clarified the right model #.
 
The N denotes a valve with a nipple which allows you to attach a small hose. adds about 1/2" to the length.

F103 = without nipple.
F103N = with nipple.

And as far as torque goes... standard torque just like a normal drain plug.
So, it's tight but NOT JIFFY LUBE TIGHT!!!!

If your valve handle doesn't line up like you would like, use a metal washer under the teflon one.(between valve body and teflon washer) For me, the addition of 1 washer moved the handle 1/4 turn anti-clockwise. This allowed me to place the handle facing aft and out of the way of possible snag hazards.

Why didn't you like the Fram? I have that one and it works just fine and I can't see where there would be an issue with it.

The one main problem I see with the Fram is the hose, you absolutely need it to drain the oil. I know it isn't likely to get misplaced, but it's possible.

I'm sure it works just fine though, it's cheaper, and more available. I ordered the Fumoto only b/c I know more people that have been happy with it. Especially on this forum...
 
I don't remember what coupon code I used but I ordered mine about a month ago. I found the coupon code by searching for "Fumoto" on Google. It wasn't hard... just clicked on a few forums until I saw it. I was only able to get a 10% discount.

I'm currently waiting until my next oil change to install it. I went ahead and got the nipple, too. I may use a hose or may not but the extra few dollars for that flexibility is worth it.

Using this with a V6 would be the best situation... no mess at all!

I don't see that as a problem but as a positive. You need the hose adaptor to open the drain check valve. Someone can't get under your vehicle and accidentally (or intentionally) drain the oil by opening a valve. The Fram also has a screw-on cover as a safety against possible valve failure. And like was said, it is less expensive.

Well, it's only a problem if you lose the hose. But we're measuring mole hairs, they're both good products.
 
Oh crud, now I'm trying to decide among the three. Fumoto w/ nipple, fumoto w/o nipple, or Fram valve. I need to make up my mind soon as I'm changing the oil this weekend. Keep oval plate on or just keep it off...aaargh. :bash:
