Fumoto or ValvoMax

Trying to decide pros/cons of going with a Fumoto valve or a ValvoMax to install on my month old 2019 TRD OR when I do first oil change at 2000 miles. Any actual users of either or both opinions requested. The odds of dealer over tightening etc. makes the hassle of doing it myself worth it. Past experience says you can expect about a 1 out of 5 or greater chance they’ll F something up and not mention it. Thanks.

Futomo user here. Zero issues installing or using.

Come on, if you've changed oil on anything before this is ez to install yourself. Sure you can use a guage to tighten but if you know the feel of tightening an oil plug it's just as well to set by hand, its the same thing. Just "snug", no he man strength on it needed.

Then you get to decide how long a hose to attach, I suggest making sure it can reach to your oil catch, if you don't plan to change the oil then I guess it doesn't matter as much. Decide where to store hose, I mean I'm guessing you'll leave it attached, I do. No more removing skid pan, ahhhh..

I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

You are putting a Fumoto valve because you will have the dealer change, and you don't want them to over tighten the drain bolt.

Or

You are saying the chance of dealer messing it up means you are going to do oil changes yourself (recommend). If your wheeling at all I would stick to OEM. Those valves especially the one with the hose fitting (which i put on first change and took off on the next) are damn close to the skid plate. Just takes one good smack and your dumping oil out on the trail.

Thanks. Keeping OEM and getting a pack of washers makes sense for the reasons you both stated. I realize the valve will be less messy and that’s a consideration, but I only put about 12k a year on so it’s not like a frequent job. Not sure I trust the dealers enough that they wouldn’t screw up a valve too.

The dealers will overtighen and/or strip a skid plate bolt, no doubt.

Simple enough to drop the skid plate down to do oil/filter change 2x a year yourself and recoat your skid bolts with anti seize while you have them off each time.

I have considered the valve just for convenience sake, but after thinking about how 1 hour of my time 2x a year it isn't worth adding in something that could possibly fail, or as posted above get bashed off while wheeling.

Either one, a Fumoto or ValvoMax are both good choices. I have the ValvoMax myself. I didn’t wait for an oil change to install it, I used the shop-vac method to keep the oil in the engine while removing the drain plug and installing the ValvoMax. Kind of a butt-puckering operation, but it really works. No mess at all.

With the ValvoMax and attached hose I can drain off the oil right into a recycling container. No more hot oil on the hands or floor for me.

Fumoto and aftermarket skids. If your going fast enough to tear a drain valve out, there is a good chance you would trash an OEM plug too, more likely running OEM skids. The more likely thing is the pan will buckle and fold before those threads blow out or the valve breaks. If you land on a skid it only going to push up the pan. So yeah if you smashing your belly a lot, skip it, or get a better spotter

I use the Fumoto Valve. I decided to purchase it because the Valvomax didn't say it fit my 2017 and I could not get ahold of the company. I think the Fumoto Valve sticks down a little further than the Valvomax but plenty far enough above my RCI skid plates not to worry me.

I definitely would recommend it, oil change is much easier and less mess. Also, I got the JDT Oil Filter Drain Hose Tool Oil Filter Release Hose and it works great too. Will just take a few weeks to get it.

Dogonit now you guys are talking reality and sense again. My 4 wheeling is likely to be pretty tame compared to most of the off-road videos I see. Even though I’m only going to do a couple oil changes a year, not having the mess or an oily armpit is a consideration. Thanks for the input.

Used ValvoMax this time, and it's a nicer piece.
