Funny Noise

Hey, i'm new here (05/09/06) I've got a 2000 SR5 with the 3.4 litre V6. I keep getting a funny noise from the engine compartment. it seems like it's comming form the right side. It's not a belt or pulley. It's also very intermittent.
There's no particular time it will go. I've got a a complete custom Flowmaster Super 40 series exhaust sytem on it so i only hear it on decel. Any ideas?

i'mnot sure which sound you are getting but usually 4runner gets a clicking noise. search about it, it's pretty common.

Yeah... do your best to use descriptive terms such as:

"Pop", "Click", "Whirrrr", "Creak", "Thud", "Thunk", etc...

to describe your noise. I'm having a hard time imagining what "funny" sounds like.

It actually sound like a squeeking. it's really high pitched. totally random, no rythum to it.

hmm! is it coming from the engine or inside the car? if it's inside the car, it might be your fan unit. which you have to clean it up! here's a DIY for 4runners fan unit cleaning. very great write-up.

if it's inside your engine, then i'm not pretty sure what it could be. maybe from the shocks? or.. a loose part that isn't screw on tightly?
