Fuse Keeps Blowing

Hi all,

I am new to this great forum and need your help please.

I have an '04 with the V8 with 61k miles. It has run flawlessly so far.

Until last week.

All of a sudden, my interior lights, remote key and all of the stuff controlled by the 10 amp fuse called "Dome" went out.

Each time that I try to replace the fuse, it blows. Obviously, something is shorting out something. This fuse controls a lot of stuff and my amature trouble shooting is not working.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this? I have an appointment at the dealership on Tuesaday and it is $104 just for them to open the hood.

Thanks for any help.

Ken

Haven't had the issue myself but you can get the wiring diagram via this forum.
Search using "wiring diagram" and User "Good Times". He posted a reply that has a link to download the wiring diagram file in the thread "excellent wiring info for 04".
Hope this helps. It is a complicated circuit but you may want to start by pulling the dome relay (in the engine bay fuse box) and trying a new fuse. This may at least narrow your diagnosing.

wlhinso,

Yes I did get it resolved for about $350.

It turned out to be a short in the driver's side visor. I finally took it the dealer and they found it.

If yours turns out to be the same thing, let me know, I will then go back to Toyota with a complaint on a repetative problem.

Pleas let me know what you find out.

Thanks,

Ken

How long did it take them to find? I have had mine witht he local Toyota dealership service department for over a week but the best they could do is give me more fuses and ask me to keep a log of what happens. Mine tends to happen after driving for longer than an hour... short trips are fine, but longer ones always kill it. Thank you for the insight.....

They found the problem the day that I brought the vehicle in.

My problem was different than yours, I think.

When I would attempt to replace the fuse, it would immediately blow.
