Fuses / Wiring - Lights & CB Radio

I'm having a friend help (actually he is doing it while I hand him the wrong tools) wire my lights (PIAA 2192 2100X Xtreme White ) and a Cobra 75 CB. The lights are already mounted on the Gobi rack and CB box will go under the center console.

There seem to be empty / unused spaces in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Has anybody used any of these unused locations? If so, what type of terminals did you use? We are thinking about wiring the lights into here, if possible.

As for the CB, I would like it be switched (turns off with the truck). Where / How did you guys wire your CB?

I used an unused slot in the kick-panel fusebox to power my CB. Just buy a mini-fuse jumper and 2 10-amp fuses to wire up that CB.

It is generally NOT a good idea to power your CB with that fuse box. You will get a better SWR by powering straight to the battery. Same goes for the ground. There are also times where I leave my CB on when I turn my truck off waiting to pass an obstacle on the trails.

i also recommend wiring to battery vs wiring to fuse panel with an "add a switch".

The only exception i would make is if the CB radio was temporary; only installed in the vehicle when going on trips.

page 538 of the owners manual shows Location # 12 as a 30 A fuse for Front Passenger's Power Seats and # 24 for Front Drivers Power Seats. Can either of these be used for the CB? Again, unlike some others I would like the CB to turn off with the truck.

I'm pretty sure those are hot all the time.

Try tapping into the fuse for the power outlet(drivers footwell fusebox) that circuit is hot ignition on only. You can use a mini fuse tap if you don't want to cut into any wiring.

Yep - just confirmed hot all of the time :redbrick:
