I am really sorry to hear about your dad. Seeing your parents in a diminished state is really hard, so I will be praying for you as well as your dad. We have had to deal with cancer two years ago and again this past summer. Oddly it was my 4Runner that gave me a little joy during those times.

I am so sorry to hear about the cancer in your family, oh my gosh, 3 different cases over the recent years, that is a lot to take in, I can only imagine =(. I wish I could say my Dad will beat what he has, but I know it will eventually take him in the next year, it is a horrible disease.

On a much more positive note, not sure if you saw my facebook post, but GUESS WHAT... I'm a legitimate T4R member again!! I was actually up your way this week in Pell City, I spotted a really nice looking 1st Gen that I couldn't pass up, so I drove up and got her! It's a 1986 SR5 5speed 4x4 and in amazing condition, the old girl drove home without a hiccup the whole 250 miles back to Florida. I really couldn't bring myself to letting go of my mostly electric vehicle that gets insanely great gas mileage for my daily driving, so I found the next best thing, a fun weekender that reminds me so much of the one I learned to drive on.

So sorry to hear about your father. My dad was just diagnosed with cancer as well. It’s so hard to see our parents that way.

Oh no girl, I'm so sorry to hear about your father as well =(. Dang, cancer freaking sucks! I hope he is doing okay and responding to treatments? I know it is a hard road he is on, and it's not an easy one for family either, not at all. I'm sending well wishes your way!

And I've missed you guys here for so long!! I swear, half the reason I wanted a Runner again was to have a legit reason to participate on this forum again, haha, I love it . As you can see above, I finally have a reason!!! :banana: :banana: :banana:

Reading this made me smile. I hope to build memories as you've described with my daughter. I rebuilt a 2nd gen 4runner a little too early in my life as I sold it since it didn't fit my lifestyle, but wish my daughter got to experience that with me. I couldn't stand my wife's dodge sx 2.0 car so I sold that to a friend and then bought a 2005 v8 4th gen 4runner for her. Now, I have a 5th gen 4runner that I hope my kid remembers. She already calls it, "daddy's monster truck" even though it has a very small lift (it just looks big to her lol).

Amazing story. I shared it with my wife and she loved it -she cried. I wish you and your family the best!

Aww, your message made my day, that is so sweet! I hope you get to make many wonderful memories with your daughter in the Runner's, ones she'll take with her for the rest of her life. She'll always think of her Dad when she sees one, and that's something special. And maybe one day you'll get that fun tinker Runner that the two of you can work on together and build even more memories with.

You'll see I posted above that I'm in the Runner family again as of this week! I went with a 1st gen like I learned to drive on because it is such a special vehicle to me. My 9 year old daughter was scared to ride in it at first because she claimed it sounded and smelled like a go-cart, but after our first trip out she exclaimed "This is my favorite car we've ever had!! It's so cool!". That made the whole trip and purchase worth it and I can't wait to make some awesome memories with her.

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through with your father. I hope he's able to bounce back, but his affliction is an ugly monster.

I have a 6 year old daughter, and a couple of weeks ago I traded in my '09 Tacoma for a '19 SR5 4R. She was really sad to see the Taco go, it's the only vehicle she's ever known me to have (I bought it new before she was born.)

Then I explained to her that I had that truck for 10 years, and I would probably drive the 4R for the next 10 years. I asked how old she would be in 10 years, and she immediately responded, "16!" I said, "You know what you can do when you're 16, right?" Her eyes lit up when she said, "I can drive!" I said, "Well then, when you're 16 the 4Runner will probably be your first car." And THAT made her excited for the new car.

Silly little story on my part, but I hope it gives you some solace to think that somewhere there is a little girl who is excited at the chance to relive your experience of growing up in her dad's 4Runner, and will someday probably own one as well.

Awww, I love your story!! Your daughter will surely come to love and make so many memories in your Runner, and hopefully including learning to drive! Memories are the most precious things we can hand down to our kids, so we gotta make them good ones. :bluejump:

I wondered if you had seen it! Yes, it is very nice, I can't believe what the guy was selling it for. I had to stop at O'Reilly's before I left town and get 2 new headlights put in for the drive home. The manager there couldn't stop drooling over it and almost offered to buy it off me for double, lol! I would have declined though, she's my girl
