Lots of vehicles on the list. Not sure the suit will fly as lawyers for Toyota will say customer perception is the real issue. I have experienced the chronic issue as I’ve been shopping certain Lexus models for a year and my nose works well

That's a lot of different models. Are the HVAC units all that similar? I never had an issue with my '12 LE, but that's a small sample size.

The smell stems from people blasting ice cold air in humid areas then not letting fresh air or warm air through the system to dry it out.

Our 2012 Camry had the issue because my wife does not concern herself with details like how A/C works in the car. Many brands of car will have this issue due to stupidity.

It's not like people don't know this - it's parroted in the news every Spring, in one fashion or another. Even if it doesn't help, it's not going to hurt anything.

Why are you expecting so much from car dealerships? Most only have a parts department because it's the law some likely wouldn't have service departments either if they could. They are a soulless entities which main goals are to maximise profits (sell sell sell). As long as toyota out sells, keeps it's dependable reputation, and remains relevant they will continue to avoid spending money on recalls.

Get it out of your head that any corporation gives a flying **** about you. The machine will march on just fine without out you and your recall service complaint where they make no money.

Yep and this is why the law suit will fail. User Error.

In most recall cases,Toyota isn't going to budge until someone dies...ie...stuck gas pedal/air bag schrapnel. I was surprised by their cracked dash recall.

more on topic though, i've never heard of the mold build up thing-- is it because people are using the air circulation feature along with super cold ac in humid climates?

I've probably never had an issue because in summer i drive with the windows down and ac off

Again this happens in all brands. My loving wife drove one of my old vehicles to work last year for a few days while hers was in the shop. The ac smelled for a bit. Women want perfect hair, duck the heat!

Toyota will do whatever is cheapest and that is limiting the ac temp so get ready for 80s Lamborghini AC

A turbo timer type feature would be best where it runs the heat to be rid of the vapor in the system but that takes fuel and the EPA would crap a brick.

I've had some stinky AC (from improper airing out) in cars ranging from a '67 Chevelle to a '78 Datsun B210 and an '86 Subaru 4WD wagon.

I assumed everyone knew this or learned it the hard way. I've mostly lived around Baltimore, D.C. and Richmond. Heck, we're officially a humid semi-tropical climate.

I get nosebleeds when the humidity gets under 40 or so.

One treatment is to leave the AC running on high and recirculate and spray a bottle of OZIUM in the car and slam the door. With the windows up of course. Come back later and see what you think.

I have never done this and I have never had smelly HVACs.

However, I have not yet used the AC in my 4runner as I bought it in December and it is my first Toyota, so perhaps they are different.
