Gaahh..... Dunlop AT20's are teh suck!

Got our real first snow storm this morning here for once. While a previous snow storm with lighter snow had me convinced the AT20's would be fine for the first winter season and I could get new tires next fall, this morning's drive to work has me thinking it's time to put on some real tires now. My Audi A4 with WinterSport M2 snow tires on it was a beast on the snow compared to the 4-Runner this morning. Just no traction, the AT20's wouldn't bite.

So, top on my list are the BFG AT KO's and the Revo's - I know the BFG's will be great in the snow, but I could stand to save a little money with the Revo's. (assuming I can find either tire) Those with Revo's, how are they in the snow? slush? ice?

I've been hearing good things about both tires, in both snow and rain. I personally will probably be going with the Revo's, since they are cheaper, get a better rating at tirerack.com, and will hopefully be quieter than the BFG's.

While we are back on the tire subject, could 4th gen owners with BFG's or Revos post profile pics of their trucks? I'd really like to see how each looks on a 4Runner

If you want to keep OE sizing, the BFG's are not available(AT KO's). BFG Rugged Trail and Long Trail are available, but they are OEM tires for Ford.

My Revo's will be delivered this afternoon, being installed tonight. Tire Rack has received their shipment of 265/65 Revo's located in the Reno warehouse.

We only got about 2 inches of snow in my area last night, but I thought the Dunlops were fine. I've had tires that were better in the snow, but I really don't see why so many people bash the Dunlops....

I played around with the stability assist by purposely taking turns too fast (for the conditions) and I was really impressed with the way it prevented my 4Runner from fishtailing or sliding sideways on the snow.

I have Revos, these are the only shots i got of them, they did pretty decent in the snow, definitely a lot better than the dunlops, so far I love them. They have performed well in snow, rain, sand and some mud.

Yeah, i have to agree with you on this one...thats when i have to take out my dads V8 Tundra and have some fun, i wish the V8 4Runners were like that with the push button 4WD, it would be sweet

You have plastic cladding, just painted to match your truck.

I think Brian has the best looking 4th gen rig I have seen. BTW...I have the same vehicle, even down to the same grey running boards, not lifted though or black steelies. .

Yeah, but your plastic cladding is a different design than the color matched cladding that comes on all the new trucks. Personally I like the unpainted cladding as it looks more aggressive. I think I saw a thread that some people had painted the unpainted cladding to match thier trucks and I thought it looked great.

I never much liked the look of the gray cladding (and waited until the painted versions were std. on the SR5 to buy mine) but now I see how it can look good and right for the vehicle.

live4swell, I think the important factor is the appearance of the black wheels and perhaps the chunkier tires. I like what you've done! Are those a black alloy wheel or steel or what?

The 265/70/17 KOs come with 16/32".

The 265/70/17 Revos come with 13/32".

The 265/70/17 Revos come with 13/32".

The stock Dunlops have 11/32", 30% less tread than the KOs. No wonder people wear out the Dunlops so fast.

I agree, the "notched" look around the edges looks rugged. I think as far as painted vs. unpainted, it depends on the color of the 4Runner. To me, the unpainted cladding looks the best on the black and titanium colored 4Runners.

A drawback of me having color keyed cladding is that it exposes more paint to be damaged. I got hit by a buggy a while back

OEM tires always have less tread depth, this is because they are sold on bid contract.

Even the same model of tire will have more tread depth when bought at a tire store.

I think it looks deceivingly clean, haha, but I think i had just recently waxed it when i took those pics...i think i used mothers show car polish that time. I have a zaino kit waiting to be used, after that it should look even more shiny.
