Gabex35's Build Thread

Whoa buddy, is this your first? Man I thought being home a lot with newborns might allow for some projects around the house, my son is 7, daughter 5, and I'm still waiting for that free time to appear. Ive got a stack of mods ready to go, but it's always something with the kids or work keeping me out of the garage.

This will be my second. I work from home the majority of the time so finding time for home or vehicle projects isn't too hard. Multi day trips are harder to come by though....

Were you running the spacers in this picture?

I want to say yes but I cant be 100% sure. I cant run my wheels without spacers because of them rubbing on my Coilover reservoir. I installed my coilovers about a week into owning the truck so I cant be sure this photo was taken during the first week.

I don't know if you have a lift but you can pretty surely count on rubbing the front bumper. I don't remember how bad I rubbed body mount.

I currently have a 2.5" Toytec Front Leveling Kit installed.

Hey Gabex35 , I'm on the verge of going Kings for my build and after scrounging every thread I can find I'm wondering if I can get your opinion?

Are you running 2.5" up front? Another post you showed about 7 threads on your kings which I think is about 2.5....did you increase threads to fit 315 tires?
Did you BMC and fender mod?
Did your ride suffer much if you increased threads? Heck King even says don't go over 2"

I'm contemplating 650lb kings with 295/17s and a 2" rear coil but everything I'm reading says going to 3" on kings is a bad idea. If you are 3" rear and on 315s I can only assume you are 3" up front? I'd really like to be as level as possible with 2" rear....

Sorry for the barrage!

At this point I have no idea what my front is over stock but its not that high. the ride the Kings give me will always be more important than lift for me. It is probably below the 2.5" mark overall right now. I have heavy rear springs so I am pretty raked for DD but when I put my swing out on, camping gear, rack and RTT it is pretty level.

I have considered going up one full turn on both sides with the 315's to gain a little extra space but it hasn't HAD to be done yet. I have a BMC done and cut some of the fender flare above the lower fender mount. I don't know what you have in terms of front bumper but I would go as light as possible on your kings for the given weight you need. I ran 550's for a very long time and it was the best ride I've had. the 650's still ride good but the 550's were butter.

To specifically address your question about your "want", you will be over kings recommendation up front if you want to level out your +2" rear. with stock rake you are already 1-2" higher in the rear and then add a 2" rear and you are 3-4 " over the front from the start. I had some CSS custom rear coils for a long time that were about 1" over stock but heavier spring load so I could keep kings low and smooth ride wise.

Good luck.

Thanks. Ride is more important to me also, my main concern is 295s. If you are managing 315s on same threads as 285s then I should be okay I think...adding pelfrey, winch and skids. Did you keep wheel spacers on with 315? No rub and max flex still?

Thanks for your input!

i think you will be fine with the 295's so long as you have a BMC and UCA's (I don't know if that tire will be too wide and contact UCA).

I have to run 1.25" spacers due to where my reservoirs have to mount (KDSS). I do rub with the 315's but I have learned to mitigate it with speed and steering wheel input. rub is not bad

So I finally re-geared to 4.56 over the weekend and man was it a job. I did the whole ECGS route with self install. The truck didn't blow up so I guess I'm going in the right direction. Too early to have any real feedback but this was the last big mod for me. Now it's time to put some miles on her. Pretty pumped.

In anticipation for the OEMAudioplus kit I ordered, I started sound deadening my interior. I also removed slide out tray and built my own version of goose gears plate system (all for about $150 including linex).

You're going to be pleased with how this really wakes up the performance, especially around town. You are going to see an increase in highway rpm, but that is not all bad. You'll now be operating in the torque sweet spot and will notice a performance improvement there too. Expect a 1 or 2 mpg hit on the highway, but that will be offset by a 1 mpg improvement around town.

I wish I had done this mod years ago.

That's good to hear. I had PM'd a couple people this morning asking about highway RPM's. I knew it would be revving higher but was a little surprised by the 2300 @65mph. all in all, it was what the truck needed with the weight it sees and new towing.

It's not horrible, especially if you are not trying to drive a constant 80 MPH. I usually cruise between 70 - 75 on the highway and as fully loaded and un-aerodynamic as it is, average about 15 MPG. Way less hunting for the right gear while pulling inclines.

So this is the finished product for a while....

Added a Shrockworks front bumper, VR10,000S, Rigid Dually Floods, Rigid 10 E2

The rig is ready for the FJ Summit and Moab next week. I'll be sure to post photos as i go.

Been trying my best to read through your thread. Do you remember if these were with the 650lb springs? I think you had said on one post you were at 1.8 inches of preload on the driver side all with the bumper and winch. It looks great.
Debating whether to go 650 or 700 in the future with just bumper and winch.

the 700lbs coils were added after I removed the Shrockworks. if your bumper is steel I would say go with 700. the 650's will work with the weight but with a quite a bit more preload.

Really enjoyed reading about your built. Are you still on the 700lb spring with the pelfrey bumper? what does your preload look like?
