Garage Door Opener in Sun Visor

While I was looking through a local junkyard a few weeks ago, I came across a 4runner with a driver side visor that had garage door opener buttons on it. Considered buying it just because, but didn't want to waste the money trying to figure it out, and it potentially not working.

I think they came on '01 through '02 (mine is a 99 Limited). If I come across one again, what all would I need to move it over to my '99?
I know I'd have to run power to it, but I have no idea how much, or where to take it from. Could I splice into the cable from the passenger side lighted mirror, or should I run from elsewhere?

Is there an extra controller for the opener, or are the buttons it?

The homelink module built in the visor is a complete unit, you'd just need to run it to power. Closest would probably be the map light in the top center console.

On the three vehicles (Audi, BMW, Jeep) I've owned with homelink, there was the visor and there was a unit that sat behind the front bumper that functioned as a transmitter. I can't for certain say the 3rd gen setup is the same as these.

If you're looking for a sure-thing, I bought a Gentex homelink + auto-dimming mirror (used, no compass) for $50 on ebay. Tapped power (constant & switched) and ground. Install took ~30 min on my '98 and looks factory.

In the Gentex the mirror itself houses the transmitter and the buttons.
