Garage floor stain/droplets

Nightmare on Elm street.... Well okay not Elm, but rather MINE!!! :rant:


So last night I went to the garage to get something from one of the shelves, while walking around the 4runner(Which I haven't used in like a few days or so) I get a hint of Gear/Diff. oil. I crawl underneath the 4runner and find a few droplets on the garage floor. By this time I am feeling :sick: and ready to :barf: and want to :cry2: like a little baby.. I run inside to get my phone so I can snap a shot.. Well here is said picture...

Might try to see if the screws can tighten down a little but not to over tighten.
Clean the area to see if it will stop leaking, if it doesn't, change the gasket with a sealer.

I Just found it odd that it started doing this, as you know I don't take it off road and all of a sudden it started to leak.. I'll take your advice and do just that.. As stupid as it sounds, I'll check to see if there is a DIY. as I haven't done anything underneath since, like I said she has run perfectly fine all this time...

Ouch! The dreaded transfer case actuator leak. Not cheap, not easy to fix.

I got lucky and had the whole actuator replaced at the dealer under warranty the first week I had my 4Runner. Would have been a hefty price to pay otherwise.
 
When I had my 03 4runner the transfer case actuator leaked for years. I did not want to spend the money to fix it. I made a drip pan attached to the transfer case filled with oil dry in an old sock. I ran it like this for about 5 years. Eventually the leak got so bad I had to top of the fluid every 1000 miles or less and constantly had to change the oil dry. Several years ago my speedometer quit working also. One day this spring my speedometer started working on it own. I joked with my wife that maybe it was time to trade it in before I spend any money on the 4runner after 11 years. I also needed new tires and the paint was getting sun damaged. The Toyota dealer gave me a very fair trade in offer and I now drive a 2014 Limited 4runner. The sad part is my 2014 actuator looks exactly like my 03 did. I hope they updated the design.

Thanks for the link... I was checking that out earlier as well... For what she's given me in terms of reliability, even though out of my price range cause it's definitely not cheap, I still consider my baby a reliable one.. :cheers:

Update:
Okay, so after taking it to the Baddest/Coolest/Most Honest guy(Transmission shop) in town, He fixed the leak. It is no longer leaking and I didn't have to replace the actuator/T-Case, as everything was properly working anyway. Took a Bay Area trip recently and was stuck in stop-and-go traffic for hours(Literally).. Plus, driving it here and there and not one drop of oil in my garage any longer. Yes, I closely monitored it with a large clean/white piece of cardboard box (Along with some shop towels) underneath, as soon as I park it in the garage. Low and behold I am a Happy Camper once again. :wink2:

So he cracked the case and installed a new seal he had laying about?
