Garmin - SUV Icon

I just bought the friction mount for my Nuvi, I will let you guys know how it well it works when it arrives,

My Dad has a Nuvi 350 and he uses the bean bag deal, not sure if this is the friction mount you are talking about, he uses it between a couple of cars so this made more sense to him vs a ProClip Mount or the suction cup mount. I road in his Jeep over Christmas and I was very surprised how well this mount worked.

I use the ProClip mount so that I don't have the GPS Unit in my windshield area, I like it mounted lower, it is too the left of my radio.

Alright guys I am almost done with the 4R vehicle for the Garmin, I found a much faster way to do things usign some software at work and also finding this page which had a much better 3d model of the 4R to spin.

http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2008/4runner/key_features/dac.html

you can click on the photo and spin it around, without anything getting int he way. When I was using the views under teh 360Views section if you spin the vehicle the "menu" options get in the way.

Anyway, I have finished the 36 different angles and I going to export my images back to Paint Shop Pro to clean up the back grounds and we should be in business to see how it looks.

Finished it yesterday, I have the 4Runner on my Garmin as we speak, I tried to post it a few times last night but it kept saying the file was to large to upload, so I have to download a zip program and upload the zip file. If that doesn't work people can just PM me and I can email them the file. I'll try and get the zip file uploaded tonight after work.

For the first run at this it turned out pretty good, I will have to work on deleting some of the shadow that appears around the 4Runner. That showed up because of the shadow that was present when copying the images. In the night mode you don't see it at all, you'll see what I mean when you load it. I am experimenting with some different paint options to see which method works the best.

OK, even zipped I can only attach the srf file. This would be the file to put directly on your Garmin, so once unzipped just copy it on your Garmin drive in the vehicle folder. If you want to modify the file convert it to a png file simply use the link here.

http://techmods.net/nuvi/

Once converted you can open it in a paint program to modify as you want. I messed around with changing the colors and it may take some patience but you should be able to change the color. Don't forget to convert it back to a srf file using the same link before putting on your Garmin drive.

Let me know if this works for someone to unzip it and use it. I will also post the file that I tried to cleanup the black outline a little.

and here's the file I tried to cleanup some more, all though I think I lost some detail in removing the black border but it may look better overall, Install both on your Garmin and let me know which one looks better.

Good work. I have yet to pick up a portable gps system, but i hear garmin is the way to go. The design on the other page looks very good.

And the one day I forget my Garmin at home, you post this? lol

Thanks for taking the time, I'll try them when I get home.

Hats off to BuckyBadger.
It looks sweet and it's unique. That took time and talent. I went with the cleaner version.
I would love to play with it sometime to get Galactic Grey but I doubt I will. It will probably get "lost" on screen in night mode.
Thanks a bunch.

Hello,

I just installed the clean version and all I can say is WOW! Very nice work! That took some talent and patience. Thank You! Fantastic Work!

I enjoy taking my Garmin Nuvi 200 on the plane with me. If you're close to the window, you can usually get enough satellites. Its like your own moving map display...it also shows your speed. Mine is maxed out at 596 mph. Sweet!
Damn...got me by 6mph. My max is 590. Used it on a flight to London, the Nuvi (except for bluetooth) does not transmit any information, it only gathers information received from satellites.

Nice!!Awesome!! I was waiting for someone to do this....I like the first one better, with a little black shadow, if you look at all the other garmin icons, they all have shadows so I think it looks awesome.....Thanks!!

Thanks guys, glad it works for you, kind of fun to have the 4R as the actual vehicle on the Garmin.

I think I lucked out that the 3D model I used was the Silver Sport which is what i have!

If anyone ever takes the time to change the color please post for others to use.

Great Job

I was just on poi-factory.com and a member just posted some garmin vehicle icons when i saw he listed a 4 runner. When i downloaded it i noticed it listed the toyota 4 runner .org. So i did a search here and what do you know, i found this thread. The search does work after all. Here is the link to the POI-Factory web site with the other vehicle icons. I downloaded the Batmoblile, Speed Racers Mach 5 and the Star Trek shuttle. There is also alot more vehicles, so you will have to check it out to see them all.

Also, i would like to thank Buckybadger for creating a 4 Runner icon. I wanted to do one myself but you beat me to it.

Cool, I figured this must have been posted elsewhere since this file is almost at 300 downloads! I thought I saw someone post the red 4runner on this thread but then they took it down.

Red runner coming up. I posted it a while ago, but it wasn't perfect so i took it off to work on it. haven't had time to but here it is. I have the black sort of highlight all around it (you will see what i mean) and i dont know if i like it. I've been driving around with it and i'm used to it now so i think its fine. A couple of the images are cutting it a bit close but i moved it quite a bit.

Thanks to Bucky for the original template. I copied and pasted a real garmin vehicle and changed the angles of Bucky's 4runners to match that of the garmin SUV's default angles.

Salsa red
Sunroof removed.

Scoop is there but you rarely see it on the gps anyway.

file size is too large for attachment, weird (d'oh couple bytes over). Download below.

requests/suggestions welcome

BTW for owners of garmins, especially the Nuvis. If you purchased your device after March 1st, 2008 you are entitled to a free map update! The new map came out at the end of April 2008 if you missed it. You will now see speed limit signs for local streets (most say it is accurate) and updated POIs and new roads, lots of other goodies. Confusingly enough it is named CN 2009. Sign in at MyGarmin to order or download the "2009" map. They will send you the update DVD free of charge. I got mine a couple weeks ago and i am loving the updated map.

My garmin boot screen image if anyone wants it (save to JPEG folder on Nuvi and set as start up screen in the picture viewer). It looks like it wouldn't fit the screen's dimensions but when you have the loading map thing at the bottom it evens it out.
