Gas milage in reality

OK I do ALOT of CITY driving. What can I expect in reality from the people who own v6's and v8's ??
( I put on 25-26k per year about 85% CITY driving )

I still can't decide on if a v6 or v8 would be best for my situation. I like to off road but nothing real hard core and I do plan on stepping up to a 265/70/17 tire in either a Revo or BFG AT.

How accurate is the window sticker mpg ??If the sticker mpg is correct and city milage is only 1 mpg different for city driving and I drive 2166 mile's per month @$2.50 per gallon and the cost of the V8 engine it will cost me an add'l $75.45 per month over a 3 year period to drive the v8. I figured that because I rotate my vehicles every 3 year's due to the mile's I put on. As of this moment my company pay's for all my gas , BUT this nice perk can't go an much longer due to the rising fuel cost's ( to bad , it's a nice perk to have) and let's face it fuel will not get any cheaper in the future. Especially when it start's to come outy of my own pocket.

My '05 V6 Limited gives me 12l/100km (~20mpg) on a highway and 13.9l/100km (~17mpg)on the city.

As an average, I'd have to say 19 mpg city. I won't know until I make my trip in May what exactly to expect as far as HWY miles go.

I get around 24mpg on the freeway but in city driving, that drops down to around 18.

highway, i've gotten 24mpg, that was a long trip from colorado to washington though. i probably average 21 highway. average about 15-16 city. v6 4wd.

Highest mileage I've ever seen in my V8 (actual, not by the POS computer) is 20.6. Around town I average about 15 MPG. This is mostly commuting mileage in the DC metro area. Overall average for the 03 V8 4R after 3 years and 33K is 16.2 MPG. That's with about an 80/20 ratio of city/highway driving. Like sharp4runr, (one of my Northern Virginia neighbors) I track every fillup in a spreadsheet, so these are real numbers.

It's been off road a couple of times, but not enough that it would make a difference in the overall mileage numbers.

My 06 V6 sucks....gas that is. The meter says I get 17.1 MPG, but with my calculations I get 15-16 MPG (1/2 City; 1/2 Highway) This is easy takeoffs. Worst I ever got gunning it all the time was 13 MPG. Sticker says 17/20 and I haven't gotten anywhere near 20 MPG. The first couple hundred miles on it I took a 500 mile highway roadtrip best I got was 18MPG. Now I have 4,000 with an oil change to synthetic and I'm still getting low MPG...weak. Sorry for the vent =)

Dude, let the engine break in. I didn't get into the 20MPG club untill around 25,000 miles. here is what helped my MPG
1. All diffs and transfer case swapped to a good synthetic
2. Syn engine oil
3. Running at least 40-45psi in the dunlops
4. Using a good fuel injector cleaner
(chevron, FP60)

Here is what hurt my gas mileage
1. Magnaflow Exhaust
2. 265/70 Revos

During the winter months with my V8 I get about 15-16 mpg, in the summer months when no A/C is on I get about 18 mpg. Not the greatest but I don't drive too far to work. Only about 20 minutes away.

Only had my V6 2WD for about a month but the computer has been giving me 19-20 mpg all in town very little freeway.

This rocks compared to the 2003 Expedition 5.4 V8 2wd I just traded on the 4Runner. It was lucky to pull off 12 mpg running the exact same route!

thank god, now I feel better!!!! I don't drive like Grandma and I don't have a lead foot (most of the time) so I was trying to figure out how you got so good gas mileage!!!

My V8 gets 19-20 MPG highway and 16 MPG City.
With only 9K miles on my 4Runner, hopefully this might not be the highest MPG I can get.

I average 14 in town with a 4wd V6. But mine only has 400 miles on it. Hopefully this will improve once its broken in.

13,000 miles. 17.6 average. 50/50 city/hgwy. I have a 7 mile commute. Truck probably does not warm up 100% on cold days.

Lowest is about 13 MPG. Highest 20.

It is true that you can't go by the trip computer, as it is somewhat optimistic. I check my mileage every time I fill the tank, and my worst mileage ever was 13 mpg, while the best was 20 mpg. Maybe I drive like Bluto!

I do a mix of driving, but have used the 4Runner for long trips. It will do okay on the highway, and you can break 20 mpg with the V-6 -- if you can keep her under 70 mph; something very difficult to do because of how well this truck runs on the Interstate.

I typically get 16 mpg in the 'city' and 19 mpg on the highway - much the same as what the V-8s are supposed to get.

Even so, I don't worry about it. I did not buy my 4Runner with the false notion that it would sip fuel like a Prius. I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra that I use for the daily commute, and it will do 27 to 31 mpg - no matter how hard I drive it.

800 plus mile trip, 2 adults + 2 Small kids + luggage, 70-85MPH all day, stock tires @ 32psi, in the summer, NC - MI, 22.5MPG on the trip computer, 21.3MPG calculated. Over 420 miles per tank. The Runner was about 3-4 months old with 7-8000 miles on it with syn oil in the engine only.

Current mileage 45k plus items in signature below.

23 mile drive to work in Raleigh, NC. Trip computer reads 18-19mpg average. I stopped calculating by hand so deduct 1-1.5 from that number. 16.5-18mpg. 330-360 Miles per tank

Best mileage ever. Wife worked at a Hospital on the beach for 4 months off season. Ie.. Jan-Apr. 20 mile drive to work on beach roads 35-45 MPH zones the whole way there. No more than 5-7mph over speed limit.(Beach cops are A$$holes). 25.5MPG Calculated.

These numbers are great to me considering I traded in a 96 dodge truck with the 360 V-8 getting 12/15 city/Hwy
