must be a houston thing. i get about the same. on the highway i can get upwards of 20-22 miles per gallon. i do need to get a new O2 sensor though... perhaps i'll see some increase? :shrug:

That could be your problem. Remember that fuel economy drops off sharply after about 60mph.
Also, were you "cruising?" Because often times on the interstate people are weaving in and out of traffic, accellerating to pass someone and then slowing down again in the right lane. That will kill your MPG right there.
I find I get the best MPG on rural, 2 lane roads where I don't do much (if any) passing. Just set the CC at 65 and enjoy the ride. I got 22.1 MPG driving from Flagstaff, AZ to Farmington, NM in March. This is on a 4x4, automatic with 265/75/16s and fully loaded for a week of camping.
Also I wonder if it's possible that you didn't fill the tank up completely at one of those two gas stations? Either way could result in an artificially low or high MPG reading. :shrug: Sometimes the 'auto shut off' device clicks off 'early' which leads you to believe you filled the tank when you didn't. Then if you fill up later at a station with a less sensitive shut off, more gas goes in leading you to think your MPG has dropped when in reality it hasn't.
That's why if you're really a stickler for accuracy, you always fill up at the same pump at the same time of day.
Nope. I've put over 17 gallons in my 4runner a number of times. Most gas I ever put in it was around 18.3.

This week I have been driving to and from work with OD off and ECT on. Today I set record avg MPG on both legs of the drive to and from work according to my scanguage II..
Has anyone else with an Auto tranny and a scanguage looked at gas mileage with OD and ECT on vs. OD off and ECT on for mixed city and highway driving????

Good one Michael.
That jet tuner would probably work better in the back of a 4runner anyway, since you could just let the back window down to run the exhaust out the back. And a LOT less body work. :thumb3:

Filled up today, 15.23 gals for 190.1 miles.
Had over 3 gallons left in tank.
Got 12.48 MPG with ECT back on. So pretty sure ECT on gives me about 1MPG better in city driving.
I don't see ECT on and OD off being much of an option since my old brain can not seem to consistently remember to turn the OD off each time I start the car.
So will stick to ECT ON around town and turn it off if I ever get to hit the highway.
I think I might just take a trip probably Saturday just to drive for the hell of it for 200 miles or so. I want to get a base number for highway miles that I can trust.
My base for 99% city is 12.50mpg
Then after I get water pump, belts etc and spark plugs, wires and PCV valve plus clean the throttle body someday next week I will see if that does anything. If not then I am done and have to accept 12.5mpg.
About the only thing I could do otherwise is change the Cat & Muffler but i am not going to mess with that unless it dies.
