I can't get off the line going in or the one coming out of the fuel filter. They're completely rusted on, I can't break them. Any suggestions?

Did you try some penetrating oil on them and let it sit for a day then try again?babyman1737 said:

I have tried "liquid wrench" (yellow can). Is there something else that may work better?
When it comes to taking care of gummied up nuts and bolts, I really like PB Blaster. I've had lots of good experiences, and it no doubt saved me when I did my lift a while back. THose suspension bolts can just break if you're not careful.
Anyway, back on the original topic, both of my '93 4runners with the 3.0/auto combination get/got 16 or 17 in notmal situations. That was with a 60/40 city/highway split.

I get about 11 mpg city, 16-17 highway. I got that when it was stock too...

hey guys just though id chime in...installed a drop in k&n the other day..changed the oil checked the tire pressure and took a trip to LA (thats Lower Alabama)...i dont know if i had a tail wind of what but i got 19.5 MPG and i was crusin 80.... Ive also just recently ground the valves and i replaced the ign system while i was in there...i was also running 93 octane..

Update - I'm currently 3 days away from officially owning my first 4Runner now for 4 months. I'm averaging 15.28 mpg. My worst tank was 11.51 mpg and the best was 17.27 mpg. I've racked up 5,613 miles and a big scratch (ugg).
24 mpg highway on winter gas (slightly better during the summer), but 22re 4-cyl w/ mods including LCE header, LCE 2 1/4" cat/catback, TRD level 1 cam. 31" tires on 15x8 wheels, regeared to 4.56, manual 5spd., manual locking hubs. The cam itself made no difference until the header/cat/catback were changed. Then it was like day & night in terms of accleration, and fuel economy slightly improved.

3.0 mods.....
I've found that all of my mods on my 4runner have not paid off at all!! The 2.5" exhaust, downey headers, 31" tires, K&N filtercharger, were a waste of money! They did not perform as well as my wife and I hoped. (Should've listened to her. She wanted a 97 Runner)
The only things that are left to do, are:
A. Upgrade the injectors
B. Bore out Throttle body
C. Drop in a 3.4L Supercharged
D. Drop in a V8
E. Drop it off a cliff, get the Ins. $$, and get the Runner I should've gotten in the first place! 97+
In conclusion...the 3.0 is crap

1992 3.0 A/T 175,000 miles 4.56 gearing 31 inch tall Michelin LTX M/S 10.50 tires,
the 10.50's cover about 10% more distance per revolution than the stock 235's,, after adding 10% to the mileage traveled per tank and doing the calculations, i usually knock out about 14 mpg in purely 'around town' driving. I 'have' seen 19.8 mpg in strict highway mileage-- i've replaced the O2 sensor, new plugs, rotor cap and button.
it's my opinion that if you keep things well tuned ,, its driving style that affects mileage more than any other, single factor.
PS,, i really enjoy this forum,, keep up the great posts!

My fuel milage is terrible, usually around 10mpg. The '95 3.0 is really sluggish and sputters all the time. 120,000 miles, fuel filter has never been changed. Has anyone changed theirs? I can't get to the side of the filter closest to the front of the car, there's a chassis bar in the way or something to that effect.

oh my gosh!
you GOTTA change it!,, it'll ruin the fuel pump ( if it hasn't already). i bought my 92 3.0 auto tranny 4R with an intermittent 'lurching' problem. It didnt happen all the time, but was so bad when it DID happen,, i thought it was the tranny going out. It had 145,000 miles on it at the time. Tried EVERYTHING ,, even replaced the O2 sensor thinking it was the buggy part. Did complete tune up,, serviced the mass airflow sensor door, checked the throttle position sensor,,, even ran high concentrations of fuel system cleaner thru the gas tank. nothing worked. then,, i had a local mechanic take a look, he replaced the frame-side fuel filter and the fuel pump. Umm,,,, $400 for the pump replacement.
I hope your problem is only the filter being clogged.

Could have saved you the money ...now just run it untill it's dead then swap the 3.4L SC .

It was mentioned before but no one ever got an answer. I don't have my manual for my '94 and was wondering what size my gas tank is. when i fill it up, it i can usually squeeze 16 gallons in it. But of course i know the tank is not quite empty yet. So is it a 18 gallon tank? Any input would be great.
oh, i get 16 hwy/13 city. sucks with gas prices at $2.15 for the cheap stuff.
