Gauge cluster lights not working after aftermarket cd player install.

I have an 05 4runner with some lighting issues. I found some other guy had the same problem on an 03 i pulled his quote.

"I have a 2003 Toyota 4runner. I recently put in a new stereo and the new stereo had no mention of the "dimmer" wire. However it had the connection so I figured since both wires were labeled, it was a common sense connection. Now my light for my gauges do not work at all. The dimmer roller that lower and raises the light level still works for my shifter column and a few other lights, just now no lights come on what-so-ever on my tachometer, speed or coolant and fuel levels. I did a visual inspection on all the fuses in both locations (under steering wheel and in the engine compartment) and they look good. What else could I be missing? Is it possible that something came loose that I did not see under the steering wheel? I did disconnect the dimmer wire from the radio and nothing changed.

Anyone have any ideas??

That solved my problems for now. I will report back when i get a new dimmer switch.

Having the same problem with my '02 doing a stereo nav install. How were you able to tell you "fried" the dimmer switch? Was it an easy fix?

Having the same problem with my '02 doing a stereo nav install. How were you able to tell you "fried" the dimmer switch? Was it an easy fix?

I have the same problem on my 2006 sport. new HU and attached those damn orange wires. no lights in the gaust cluster with speedometer, but dimmer "wheel" affects the middle HVAC cluster and gear selector.

any ideas??? I have an appt with the dealer next Friday, but I would love to fix it myself to avoid the huge charge coming my way
