Buy an SR5 instrument cluster off ebay or at a junk yard and swap it into your 4Runner....instant tach. There are two on ebay right now. It's completely plug and play except you will need to change your oil pressure switch to an oil pressure sending unit for a gauge. A new OEM pressure sending unit is about $30. Do a google search, there are many, many write-ups on this swap.

I did one last summer on my 85 4Runner and it took me about 30 minutes including changing the oil pressure switch. Btw, you have to do the oil pressure switch BEFORE you change the instrument cluster. Otherwise it will damage the oil pressure gauge in the cluster.

probably be easier to buy a tach gauge from auto zone/kragen/pep boys etc...

why? its about the same size as the in dash jut not...in the dash lol.. I dont like those little 1 inchers or 2 inchers lol they are too small cant see while driving.
and Im prtty sure its easier to install the single gauge than the cluster... mount it and connect a few wires...how simple is that...
ground ilumination power and another to the coil....simple dont need to take anything apart

....OK so you also have to change the oil pressure sending unit but that's just unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one in.
