Well I finally bit the bullet and bought my kit from theretrofitsource.com. I went with the D2S kit. I know there are lots of write ups and threads but very few from someone tackling this for the first time. So I'm along for the ride the same as y'all will be haha.
Packages got here. Super quick shipping from trs and I couldn't be more pleased. I went ahead and bought another set of headlights off amazon as well, this way if I needed to drive at night, I still have headlights on my runner.
I started by taking off all the plastic parts and other bits and pieces on the back of the headlights. With a little advice from a friend who's done this before I finally got it off. There's a spring, one clip thing and the two adjustment nuts. TAKE OFF THE SPRING FIRST. If you start to unscrew the adjusters first it will only tighten the spring making it harder to get off. Stupid on my part lol.
Alright got all that done and took longer than it should have. Finally time to put them in the oven and separate the glass and the actual reflector.
I baked them at 200 degrees for about 8 mins. Now, this is my first time doing this so the first light didn't go too smoothly. I found that the easiest way in opening them was to get a razor knife and separate a corner enough to where I could get a sturdier knife in there to pry them apart. Second headlight went much, much smoother.
Just for kicks since I've never played with projectors I stuck a flashlight in one to see the cutoff.
I'm sorta test fitting things at the moment and planning out how I'm going to do everything before I paint the housings and the shrouds. I'll be painting the housings black and the shrouds will be white.
I'll try my best to keep updates going throughout the whole process and hopefully this thread will help out others who are on the edge of not knowing whether or not they want to tackle this project themselves or have someone build them.
