Gear options and suggestions

I have an 88 with a 22RE motor ( 5 Speed ) that i recently finished a partial restoration on. I installed a 5 inch suspension lift and have a new set 33 inch tires and rims to install. Most of my driving is local and on country roads. I would like to be able to go about 70mph with the 33's. Can stock gears handle that? or do I need to change? The majority of my driving is on the streets with only 1 or 2 times a year off road. Prior expirence and suggestions are much appreciated.

What engine do you have? Stock gears are 4.10 I believe and stock gears with 33s would probably be usable but not fun. There was another thread on this the other day.

4.88s or if u really want to wake 'er up 5.29s since its not for long distance commuting.
Beautiful restoration btw.

33's with 4.10's isn't bad, but I'd look for a set of 4.56's to help. They won't keep your rpm's up as high as 4.88's.

And why a 5" lift with 33's?

I'm running 33s with 4.10s and its bearable since I have a very strong running 22RE. Around town its ok, but out on the hwy, u can forget about 5th gear and any hint of an incline will find u downshifting and getting passed by Yugos, Samurais, and VW vans.
Also 4.88s will bring it back to its normal power band and help compensate for the additional weight of the bigger rims and tires. Its what I plan on doing ASAP.

I am running 33x10.50 and have 4.88s. Money well spent. I can run 70 on the highway in 5th and lay the pedal down and it it do 75-80 no sweat. Pulls like a mountain goat
