Gear shift

As a new member I am unfamiliar with many mechanical / electrical aspects of my 07 4runner.

As some have said when unintended acceleration occurs selecting Neutral / Park / Reverse and other gears does not do anything to abate the situation .

Just wonder if the gearshift selector is a by wire /electrical device , or is it selected mechanically ??

The shifter is electronic and there is no mechanical linkage to the transmission.
