Gear Shifter Light #74 Replaced - Still Doesn't Work

Last night I took the 3 screws that hold the gear shifter down, pulled the light out, and replaced the little light that lights up the gear shifter (1997 SR5 Runner). It's a #74. But even with the new light bulb, the light still won’t come on. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Be sure that your #74 is actually the right size (dimension). I bought some #74 bulbs that were too big and because of this, they didn't sit properly in the socket so they still wouldn't work.

If I recall correctly, I had to get a #73 bulb because it more closely matched the dimensions of the OEM #74.

Point is, it seems that not all manufactures use the same dimensions for the standard bulbs.

Stop and return that bulb. It's actually bulb size 2721. If you try and force the 74 in the socket, it will break. Trust me on this, learn from my mistake.

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense, thanks! I seemed like it wasn't in all the way... Everything I read says that it's a #74... Guess they're wrong!
