I have been weighing on continuing my search for a 99 4runner Highlander Edition with the e-locker with the 4.30 gears or just settling for the same model which I have found without the locker which from what I have researched comes with 4.10's. How much difference would it make between the 2 gear ratios if I decided to run BFG KM2's 265/75's (52.25lbs each) and black rock 942 type D steel wheels (shipping weight is 37lbs each)? The main reason I was wanting the e locker is so that I could possibly get away with not having to regear with the larger tires and heavier wheels.

I appreciate it man, I don't plan on adding any extra weight other than my fatness and a roof rack.

You might want to verify the actual gearing by counting driveshaft rotations vs. wheel rotation if gearing is a concern. Even though some believe that all 4runners with e-locker have 4:30 gears, that is not true. I have a '97 with e-locker + 4:10 gears.
Similar to Pikeman, I went from 265/75-16's to 285/75's and in my opinion, it is still very driveable/offroad capable and gets 21mpg highway. I wouldn't prioritize 4:30 gears looking for a 4runner. Keep in mind I also have a 5-speed manual transmission.
I could throw one of my stock '97 wheels with 75% worn 265/75 mounted on the shipping scale....

I have heard that before, as long as it has 4.10's i should be fine from what i am reading. That'd be great, if you could give me a weight. I just need something to reference.

I was just factoring the total weight of the wheels and tires. It is around 89 lbs total and the others are say 66 with all of the tread.

I see now...reading comprehension fail on my end. Those steel wheels are heavy...!
That tire I posted weighs 49# new. I'd guess the aluminum wheel at 18#-ish.
Yeah I know I may have to look into getting a lighter wheel. Thanks for all of your help. I have decided to go with or without the e-locker.

Go for a lighter wheel. Steel wheels are great for wheeling, but they are a lot heavier. Brian2sun compared getting steel wheels to moving from a 33 to a 35. Also like the others have said the 4.10 v. 4.30 is very slight. Not worth waiting and missing a good 4runner for the different ratio.
