Gen 2 Rear carrier swap into a Gen3?

My rear axle carrier is pretty rusty and I'd like to swap it out for a more solid piece. I came across this one today at the scrap yard. Its out of a early 90's Pick Up, would this swap over?

Anything is possible, but the amount of work required for that is massive. The suspensions are completely different. I wouldn't try it.

. and I hope you are talking about the rear axle as in the HOUSING. The carrier is part of the diff. its what your ring gear bolts to.

But to answer your question No It wont work. Its too narrow for one, plus its got spring perches on it for those leaf springs, and maybe you have never look under your 4runner but it doesnt have leaf springs. And cutting all the stock mounts off and welding them on a new axle would be a complete waste of time. It would be easier to design you own 3 link the would work better anyways

I'm well aware it's coil springs, although I have not studied in detail how they attach. Most domestic rear ends swap easily from year to year going back 30 years. I figured Toyota would be similar and it would just be a matter of swapping brackets. Guess not.
