Gen 4 Pace Setter Exhaust Manifolds / Headers

Yep, they crack just as easily as the stockers. I agree with the above post that they just can't take any amount of weight on them. Installing the flex pipe from a front wheel drive car into the passenger side of my y- pipe has prevented my passenger side manifold from cracking again but there's no room to get a flex pipe section on the drivers side of the y pipe, so my driver side manifold is cracked again. Fml

You should be able to put a flex in the small connector pipe from the d/s manifold to the rear cat. They make fairly short flex sections that should work for that. Certainly not looking forward to having to re-engineer the exhaust to have it stay quiet if this is what it's going to take.

Well this sucks. I had the drivers side done with a Magnaflow a month ago and it's leaking again. Haven't had the time to take it apart to check for cracks yet but I have to say this is ridiculous. CruzadoBlanco how will installing the Doug Thorley's solve this problem?

They are a much higher quality build, and you get shorty headers to boot, so far from what I've seen noone with the Doug thorlys has had them crack like the magnaflows or in my case the pacesetter I installed a couple months ago. If I can get them to make me a set for the pre vvti v8 I'll be all over them

Not sure I want to do the extra work that's required for headers in regards to welding on the cats, etc.

Has anyone out there installed any manifolds that have held up?

Both my manifolds starting to crack. Slight tick when cold start. I am having custom duel exhaust made so should I ask to have a flex section put in each pipe. Maybe it will buy me some time before I have to replace them again. Will be third set.

Replace them with Doug Thorley Headers performance headers. They are a lot cheaper and better than OEM.

Do the Doug Thorley headers bolt up to the stock Y pipe. Also how hard are they to install compared to the stock manifolds.

I am also in the same predicament, looking to see if I should get the shorty headers or the long headers and which ones bolt up to the y pipe?

Are they actually cracking or is the gasket leaking. I ask because I installed a set of crapsetters a few months ago. Not only did I have to machine the flanges ~4-5 mm to get them flat. I had to heat up the downpipe area cherry red and rebend it to get it to work with the factory y pipe.

If the flange isn't flat it will leak after a bit. If your prying on the exhaust to get it to line up then its going to put a ton of stress on it and likely crack one of the shitty welds.

They are junk any way you slice it. But there isn't a good solution for this problem so stick with what is cheap and install it as best as possible

If you install the secondary induction air pump bypass mod can you just block off the air tube with the plates and run the pacesetters for 03-04s on a 05-09?

I am looking at options... Dont want to spend big money on aftermarket parts that will fail faster than OEM. Im leaning toward OEM parts at a dealer or DT's at a custom shop. One would have a warranty for at least 12 months... the other none.

Just go DT and save yourself the headache.
The problem with 03-04 manifolds is they don't have the chanel of air ports over the exhaust ports. So if you used them you'd need a block off plate. There was a guy making them years ago, but he isn't active that I know of anymore.
Doug Thorley headers will be better quality, won't break, improve power and efficiency, and other than the welding part it's the same pita to install.

you can, it has been done. however just spend the extra money on the doug thorleys. both the magnaflow and pacesetter manifolds are garbage. i pretty much wasted 200 bucks on my pacesetter that cracked in less than 3 months.

That is my plan. I want to fix once and be done. I found a reputable custom exhaust shop and will be contacting them to get a quote for the job with DT headers. I plan on buying the DT headers and letting them do the job. One question though... is it worth buying new cats rather than having the old ones welded on? Worth replacing all the O2 senors with Denso replacements?

Some will say no, but I believe it's worth replacing the cats. You can get some nice high flow ones from magnaflow or flow master for a great price. I wouldn't worry about the O2 sensors unless they give you problems. Those suckers are a pretty penny!!
You won't find a better price than what Jason B can give you. Give him a call/text @ 7173192100 or you can pm him here, or even go to his website. I'd call/text as you can deal directly with him for any questions.

So is there any reason not to go with a new OEM manifold? My driver's side is leaking and I have a hook up for employee discount on OEM parts. Plus free install from the lead tech at the local Lexus dealership :bounce:

Ya, it'll just crack again. It is a faulty design. There's several threads on it, this one doesn't really have much info.

Yeah I know yet will crack again, but I'm okay with going another 75k+ and having it crack again.

Besides, I would still need the cats in order to pass visual inspection

So if I understand correctly: If you have a 05+ v8 and you live in California, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do or has done which can stop the manifold from cracking since you can't use anything except factory manifolds to pass smog?

Am I missing something?

So weld the cats onto the headers per instructions. I mean stock replacement is like twice the cost of the headers...

Can't help you there, not sure of cali rules. I'm not sure why they aren't smog approved as long as you keep the cats, just a better designed manifold really. Cali is crazy! Lol
