Little confused by the gen talk - how do you know what gen you have?

1998 SR5 3.4L 4Runner

you know what gen you have by body style. 1st gen is 85-89, 2nd gen is 90-95, 3rd gen is 96-02, 4th gen is 03-09, and 5th gen is 2010 to current.

And then you have the trans-gens, who seem compelled to replace some of their gen's parts with parts from another gen.

84-89 is a 1st Gen. My 84 turned 30 this year!
