I'm in the market for new tires on mine and I'm stuck between these and the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W's.

Can anyone persuade me in my choice please? I've never bought A/T tires before, so I'm having a hard time. Thanks in advance!

The ATX qualifies for a 100$ rebate right now and Discount Tire Direct has been running flash sales frequently as of late. The flash sales are a bit tricky (you have to figure out if your tire qualifies, few do) but you can end up with a great deal.

The ATX was not available when I chose the AT3W. I would say that it seems to me to be the other most promising P metric AT besides the AT3W. I would be very curious to test a set just to see how they compare.

I wonder if the ATX trades a bit of performance on rock off road and in rain on pavement for longer treadlife.

As for LT, neither is a great option. While the Wildpeak offers extra wide steel belts in both P and LTE and the ATX offers extra strength steel in both P and LTE, apparently, both the AT3W and the ATX weigh too much for LTE tires that lack a third sidewall ply.

I actually just purchased these two days ago. Balanced great and look even better! I got the P-rated 265s. I couldn't believe how quiet they were compared to the stock duelers. Granted, the duelers I had were screaming every time I turned, even though they had 5/32nds on them. For me, having great grip in wet traction (especially rain/snow) was paramount. I was considering the Falken A/T3W, but I saw a lot of comments about issues with shaking while driving around 80...75mph (around there). That wasn't going to fly for me. Plus, the $100 rebate General is offering until Oct 31st didn't hurt, either. I drove up to Madison over the weekend while we were getting 3" of rain and had no issues or worries at all regarding traction.

I've had zero issue with balancing. Maybe you got a bad set, or it's something else?

I dunno enough about it but I had them road force balanced today and these numbers came up:

RF = 12, LF = 17, Both Rear = 18 pounds of force.

I have heard under 15 pounds is necessary for a toyota but like I said, I don't know enough.

They feel better but I still get a little shinmy at 60.

I'm not sure how helpful I can be with that one. I would say that they are smoother than the OEM tires. Kind of softer? The buckles/potholes don't hit as hard as they used to (none of the streets near me have smooth roads). I've never had any tire that has "comfort balance technology" or anything comparable to it, but I would say there is a noticeable difference. I do have a little bit of a shimmy around 60-65 mph sometimes, but I'm attributing that to the botched alignment I got from a independent shop in the area. The rig drove straight when it went in, but I've had it there twice, and it still pulls to the right. I'm getting it realigned by my normal toyota shop tomorrow.

Ditto the above. Purchased a set of stock size ATx from my Toyota dealer, they were running the buy 3 get the fourth for a dollar. Free rotations, hazard protection and the $100 dollar General rebate put the dealer inline with the best price i could find elsewhere. Dealer did an Alignment checked, balanced and installed the tires.
I really like the overall appearance of the tire. Although the same size they look wider then the originals. The dealer apparently knows how to balance the tires, absolutely smooth ride with no hint of shakes or shimmy. As stated above you immediately notice a ride difference from the stock tires, much smoother and a feeling the tires have a better grip on the roadway.
Anyway I'm very happy with the purchase of these tires and it makes the 4Runner look like a 4 wheel drive should.

I'm getting mine mounted up right now, then heading directly down to the dunes tonight. My old tires (Duratracs) never saw sand, so won't be able to make many comparisons there, but should get a good feel for highway driving at least.

I'm stepping up to 35s from 33s, still on stock gears (for now), so that will be an interesting experiment. Pics incoming tonight... Or possibly when I get back on Sunday.

Oh damn thanks for picture man. Been scouring the internet for 265 on stock TRD Off Road wheels. These are gonna look great on my new red 4runner. Excited to see how they do in the snow. Excited also to do donuts.

The new 35s are mounted up and have been tested so far with a 200 mile highway drive and a day in the dunes. So far they seem great. Significantly better ride and quieter on the highway than my old Duratracs. Never really drove those old tires in any significant sand, so can't really compare there, but had no issues at all with these.

Got the General Grabber ATX installed a couple weeks ago and i am loving them. I put on 275/70/17 E rated and was expecting a more harsh ride but that is not the case. I had 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on before and ran them for about 45K. The Wildpeaks were a great tire but getting pretty loud around 40k. I have to say the Grabber ATX is a quieter tire then the Wildpeak were when they are new. The biggest downfall is the added weight and can definitely feel it during acceleration. Also had no problem with balancing with the Grabber and was back 2 times to rebalance the wildpeaks. All in all this is a great tire

Curious what PSI you guys run on these without beadlocks? I had them down at 17 in the dunes, and they performed great, but they seemed much more stiff than my old Duratracs, which made me wonder if they'd go significantly lower. Anybody pushed the limits on these yet?

Dont have much to compare with seeing as I never drove on the stock tires but I have no concerns with road noise at this point. Hoping they will do well when the white stuff flies.

I figured I’d chime in since this thread helped me pull the trigger on getting the ATX’s after my Cooper AT3’s we’re nearing the end of the road. I’ve had mine installed for about 2500 miles now. I went with the SL’s since it’s a daily driver and most of its time is spent on road.

These tires have seen most conditions now: snow, rain, ice, dry, in town and open highway. (Yet to see off-road mud and rocks)

This is my wife’s ride and her old tires made her feel like she was on skates when it snowed. I figured some of it is her driving and some of it was the tires. So far she’s had 2 good snow days in Denver with the new tires and I’m yet to get a call from her panicked that she’s going to slide off the road. She says they feel a lot better in the snow and icy roads and they are a lot quieter than the old coopers.

I’ve had a chance to put some decent miles during a road trip from Denver to Phoenix over the Thanksgiving weekend where we experienced heavy snow through all of New Mexico on i25 and i40. I’m impressed by how well they did in the harsh conditions. During our trip we saw lots of cars stuck and spun out. We kept it in 4wd and cruised right thru.

I think I've got enough time in on them to give an opinion. 2000km. Been winter here for a few months we've had wet snow, ice and I just got back from a ride in light Blizzard conditions -17C. I never drove a truck before getting the 4runner and these are the only tires I've used.

I certainly feel confident in winter conditions. Vs winter tires I really like a all terrains as a middle ground because I can drift around and not worry about the soft tire compound melting off. It does slide on pure ice eg at stop signs or if I take a corner too fast but I think this is to be expected. These circumstances might have slightly better performance with winter or ice tires but would probably require a similar level of traction. I have been on decent inclines in 4 inch snow and had no problem with traction in 4wd. And in 90 percent of slippery conditions the 4runner takes off like a bat out of hell in 4wd and I have no problem with quick stopping.

They look damn cool. I have them at 33 PSI currently and they have a nice wide body and tread profile that gives it a more aggressive look than the stock tires. White lettering out is ftw.

Mine are p rated. I'm getting bad mileage but assuming that's because I tromp the throttle generally. (?maybe also the lower psi - not sure if someone might comment on that?) I think I made the right decision on P rated with respect to ride quality. Smooth and soft.

Price was definately right. Excited to see how they do in the summer and in muck.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. I've had these for about 5000mi now, and we just had snow, mixed snow, and an ice storm within the past two weeks. These have been fantastic in the snow and ice. The wet traction is great, and I feel confident. Obviously, ice is ice, but the slippage has been minimal.

Can't say I really have any complaints. I've been playing around with tire pressures to see how the mpgs roll. 36-37 usually keeps me around 17.5, plus or minus a couple tenths depending on how my driving goes for the week. Overall, I usually do 60/40 city/highway. Of course, temp, driving style, air pressure (etc.) affect those mpgs, so it isn't super reliable or scientific. But I was ok with the chalk test on them.

In terms of noise, I find the road noise acceptable. It's higher pitched, but it is not nearly as loud as other ATs or MTs that I have heard while on the street.
