get "proven" 04 V8 engine or wait for "un-proven" 05 VVT-I V8

For those of you waiting to buy or those who have bought already, i'm curious as to what you would do now, knowing that the 05 V8 will have vvt-i and more horses.

so here's the scenario:

you want to get a SE 4x4 V8. You have the funds to pay more for an 05' when it comes out as opposed to getting a good deal on an 04' now. You will follow the maintanence schedules to a T. You are not a crazy driver. You will keep this car until they build cars that can fly. You could care less about the availiability of options in the 04's. You just want a car that'll work for you. Do you take the sure bet with the history of the 04' I-Force or do you take "a little" chance on the new kid on the block?

If you ask me you're not really take much of a "chance". I mean, this engine is built by Toyota. It's going to be reliable no if or buts about it.

Even with the "unproven" V6, the only problem has been that fuel rail and that was quickly fixed by Toyota and so far hasn't shown any long term issues.

Go for more power

First, the engine is made by TOYOTA. I can't see reliability being an issue. Second, the more hp, the more fun you have! Go with the new V8.

I have to agree with everyone on this issue. Varible timing has been out for awhile. There is a small concern Toyota might screw this up, even this happens they should fix it. If I was in the market, I would get a V8 4Runner and I would make it the new VVT-i. :bigok:

Go for the new V8. All of Lexus engines on current models have VVTi...for years now. Most of Toyota's engines (from 4-cylinder to 8 cylinders) have VVTi.

Most engines in decent cars nowadays have VVTi or some version of it.

It's not a new technology. It's proven itself...everyone (aka every manufacturer) is on the bandwagon. There must be a reason for this. It works. It's reliable.

And the fact that Toyota makes it is just icing on the cake!
