my local dealer quoted me $12000.00 (that's twelve thousand) for installation of the navigation system on a 2003-2006 4R

Does that sound correct? LOL

anyone have to replace one yet?

no I was not. This was over the phone and I am veyr used to dealing with negotiating prices when it comes to accessories.

call your dealer and see what they say on installing the unti etc

You need to tell that dealer you'll take his offer and set up an appointment.

That guy will do a back flip right there in the store and the GM will be ecstatic. Of course, you shouldn't actually show up for the appointment and when they call to ask why tell them what you really think about their "offer".

yeah im sure, they said the unit alone is $6500

That is absolutely ridiculous. Have them provide the actual part numbers.

The NAV unit that comes in the '06 4Runners is:
P# 86120-35390
list price is 3876.31
you can get it online for about $3,000

you also need the antenna which is seperate:
P# 86860-35050 list price is 458.25
online it's about $325

So even if you were to pay LIST price it's about $4,300.

BUT as others have said, there are other options. OEM value sells the Toyota nav units for $1,500. They are not the actual 4Runner NAV units, they are for the Camry and Solara. They fit right in (plug & play) but they light up green instead of orange like the 4R.

Or you can go aftermarket with the Eclipse unit. It is made by the same manufacturer (Fujitsu Ten) so most of the connectors fit right in. You'll need a $10 trim piece also.

That's way too expensive. Get Garmin. It's cheaper and better.

Wait a minute, it must have been a quote in Canadian dollars, right?

my first response to the guy was - "is this going to be over 2000.00$?"

WHen he told the toal I replied -

"Have you been drinking this morning?"

Call them up by all means!
